Holding up the line because you forgot your $$$!

Today, I had to go to the post office to drop off some packages I sold on Poshmark and renew my po box. It is no fun going to the post office. No matter what time you visit, the line is always out the door. I do not understand why there are 5 cashier lanes but only 2 are open. The manager even had the nerve to say "Thank you all for your patience, we are expecting longer lines than the usual" -and- you will hear me say "The line is like this everyday" To top it off, the gal in front had all the time in the world to check her wallet, instead she was browsing her phone and what not... so she didn't check her for her purse. The gal had all these packages to ship, asking all these questions and when it's time to pay. "Oh I forgot my wallet in the car...." Normally, you will help the next person then right? No. This employee waited for the girl to walk to her car.. look for her wallet.. walk her sweet time back inside. No rush, no running.. just walking like she's boss. That cashier could have helped two other people in line. Really? I was really disappointed with the service as is. I know when I have to fill out a piece of paper like a customs form if I do not have my paperwork filled out, they will tell me to stand aside to help the next customer until I am ready.

United States sounds like India for me as there are also 5 cashier lanes but only 2 are open.

There are 5 cashier lanes for the postal office but never have I ever seen them all open. Only 2 cashiers. No matter what time, day I go, it's always 2!

@infatuatedbby isn't it crazy to have 5 and only open 2?

@Lucky15 Totally! What's the purpose right?! They know its a long line why not the manager work instead of just standing there. All she goes is if you want to buy a stamp she points at a floater who can sell you stamps and thats it. Very lazy!

I am sorry that you have to go through that unpleasant experience. I always thought this happens in my country, but I never thought it happens in US as well! I always thought it's more efficient in US or European countries.

I had that experience just a few days ago, only it was me. I had paid bills before I went to the store. I hadn't realized I hadn't put my wallet back in my purse. When I got to the cashier, I was digging for my wallet - not there. The cashier was understanding, put a hold on my items, and helped the next person/s until I got back with my wallet. That really is the way it should be handled. I was embarrassed as that has never happened to me before.

Sounds like the woman was really rude and thought only of herself. She should have allowed the people in line behind her to go ahead of her when she needed to go back out and get her purse. Then she should have went to the end of the line. People can be so selfish and rude. You must have a very busy post office. We have two registers but I have never seen two people working the counters at once. We live in a small town though.

Yeah, she took her sweet time. All the time she was in line, she couldn't check if she had everything she needed. Mistakes happen, but the cashier should have helped other people in line then waiting for one person to get her act together.

Maybe those three got fired and they don't have other cashiers, don't you think? I don't know how the system works there.

She should have noticed her wallet was in the car before standing in line.

Exactly, given she had time to play around with her phone. Mistakes do happen, but I believe the man should have helped someone else and have her wait to the side. Not have all of us suffer because she forget her wallet.

That girl lacks some courtesy. She should allow the next person in line to transact at the counter while she gets the wallet from her car! And the employee at the counter should had done it, or they issue numbers to call whoever will be served.

I work as a cashier and it drives me crazy when I ring up someone's items and then they find they don't have their wallet or something. I feel like they should be getting that ready before hand and making sure it's there before they hold everyone up. I do understand about not being able to move on to the next customer though. With my register, I can't just cancel an order and move on without getting a manager approval. By the time I would get a manager up, the customer could be back with their money. Maybe it's the same at that post office? I don't know. Either way, people should be prepared and have everything ready before they get there.

I completely understand for you, you can't! But Target and some stores allow you print the amount and when they come back it can be rung up. I think people should be prepared because it could be a very much inconvenience for those in line that are ready!

I cannot believe that he did nothing but waiting for the girl to come back. You should tell the manager.

Very irksome! I'm reminded of the people who spend fifteen minutes waiting for a bus, having a natter or playing with their phone and then once on the bus, they have to dig in their bag for their purse, count out their change ... they make me want to scream!

Something that goes here too. Seriously, their lunch breaks are longer than the time they work some days. We have to get up and make the line several hours in advance to have the work done on time.

It's like when someone waits to actually get on the bus before they start digging through all of their pockets to find their change, while the rest of the passengers just have to sit there wondering if we're going to make our transfers.
