In a spoof video Tanmay Bhat insulted Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar . do you think this is freedom of speech ?the people who are making fun of Legends should know the fine Line between insult and comedy. The insults were very personal.
These are people who were awarded Bharat Ratna.
Do you think Tanmay Bhat did all this just for the purpose of creating controversy and to become famous?

Under Indian Penal Code, section 499 and 500 speaks about defamation. If someone tells false statement about others which defame their reputation then they can be punished. It has to be seen what was the content of Tanmay Bhatt's material.

I believe the intention was not malafide. As long he didn't intend to defame anybody it shouldn't be considered as an offence.

@vijay_2016 Article 19(1)(a) of constitution of India: Freedom of speech and expression.
The statute doesn't prohibits you from making statement. To make such a statement is purely discretional and depends upon the prudence of the person.
Having said that a big political leader made a statement regarding rapes in India that "It's a part of mans nature so mistakes/slip ups like that can happen." I don't see him behind the bars? I don't need to name the politician most us know him.

@Blue_bubble completely agree that the politicians statement were meaningless. in Tanmay's case they are not statements, a video making fun of 2 legends is also not acceptable

@vijay_2016,I have heard the news, but don't know what he said, what his exact words were. However I condemn any defamatory comments made against persons who are so respected and have done so much for the nation. It's not freedom of speech,it's misuse of the freedom of speech.

@vijay_2016 Just because you are given freedom to express yourself, you can't hurt anybody.

I have seen the video.
The reason people are offended is because it was mocking two legends.
These kind of mockery happen in so many comedy shows, infact lot of people have mimcked sachin in past, but somehow this caught the attention more and got viral.
I think more than defaming sachin, it was more attacking on Lata Mangeshkar.

exactly he even went on to say her face was bulged and all that stuff. 5000 years old and she should die, these are not good comments.

The industry has cashed out of making mockery for decades now. Dark people, fat people,Punjabis,Bengalis, woman etc. Why does no one bats an eye ever when such an act is done.
Tanmay Bhatt mocked Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin and entire nation is loosing their mind. But what about the statement that Sunil Pal made against him stating"Half of his audience are gays and lesbians who as dirty as they are are dirtying the nation". Never saw anyone taking a stand against such a mindless statement.
This really shows where our priority lies.

@vijay_2016 I am not saying what he did was right or wrong. That is completely subjective. But just think about it where are we when we people REALLY need to raise our voices?
