Bleeding Heart Gone Crazy

I planted a Bleeding Heart flower a couple of years ago. It has done better than I expected. When I planted it two springs ago is stood about 4 inches high. No flowers that year but I was hopeful for the future of this plant. From what I have seen there are two colors of Bleeding Heart, red and pink. The color variation from plant to plant varies and the pink and red while different the colors are hard to differentiate unless the two colors are next to each other.
My Bleeding Heart is currently about 3 feet tall. I have to say I'm very pleased with the growth and health of this plant. I'm thinking that if I left it alone it would very well take over my flower bed. So far we haven't cut it back but that day my come eventually.

It is really pretty! I want one of those. But i would kill it, lol. I am not good at keeping any plants/flowers alive. =(

No you wouldn't kill it, all it needs is some water now and then that's it. We do nothing else for this plant.

Just reading the title only, my immediate thought was: I am a bleeding heart and I already know I am crazy. Nothing new.
The picture and the flowers are absolutely lovely!!!

Beautiful plant. I have always wanted one to add to my garden bed. We are contemplating a move and will need to uproot and transplant my many treasured perennials. I refuse to leave them behind.

@ElusiveButterfly I think so too, and the bigger it gets the more flowers I get. A win win deal lol. Thanks so much.

I don't blame you I would take them with me as well. It seems to be doing quite well without any interference from us. I'm pleased.

I don't have a bleeding heart plant, but another friend on here does and I love to look at the pictures that she posts. Is there a lot of upkeep to keeping this plant small and contained to just a certain size? I don't like high maintenance plants.

@fishtiger58 Is it a plant that you can or have to easily separate to keep it to a certain size?

We just let it go and it's done very well. It seems to grow up more than out, but it has done some of that as well.

@Juliaacv I don't think so we have just left it alone, but I think if it gets to large you can easily cut it down a bit.

I discovered this flower because I was searching for free images for my blogs. This has to be one of the most beautiful flowers in the world! Sadly, I've never actually seen a real one.

How sad, you are certainly missing out. My bleeding heart is only 3 years old at this point but it's huge, and it produces a ton of flowers every year. Glad I got to at least show you a shot of them.

My mother had one in a hanging basket and it was beautiful, but if memory serves it wasn't fond of too much sun.

Ours gets a mixture of sun and shade where we planted it. I'm sure that's why my hubby put it in that spot. It's doing well for which I'm glad, I was the one who wanted it.

@fishtiger58 It's funny, my mother was not an outdoor person - unless she happened to go out to chat with a neighbor. She wasn't fond of the sun at all and was usually more concerned with her indoor plants.

Sadly it doesn't seems the blooms last about 2 weeks then it's just the foliage that continues to grow.

@fishtiger58 I know. I really don't understand where they all went. Maybe they just aren't so popular around here anymore. I think they're wonderful.

Mine are red, this pic is of them in the park near my house they are pink. Seems the pink ones around here anyways are more common so I picked a red one.

Beautiful blooms, when I planted mine I did not realize they got so tall now I have to relocate all the bulbs I planted around it come fall because the bleeding heart covers them :( will have to do the same with the red and white one in a year or so too

I want some white ones, didn't know they came in white. Yup my flowers are done but the plant is getting huge, I'm thinking it will take over the flower bed if we don't cut it back some.

So pretty. I didn't know they could grow outside. I've only seen them in hanging planters. I'll keep that in mind :)
