Do you want to know a secret?

Hey! Are you good with keeping secrets or do you love whispering them to other people? Young people can't keep secrets to save their lives, most of the time! It's hard to keep things under wraps for them. When I worked with children, I heard all sorts of stories that would have turned their parents' hair white! In fact, when I ran my parent meetings, I sometimes let a couple of stories slip out without revealing any names and I'd see one or two red faces suddenly appear before me! And BAM! Secrets are out of the bag! As for me, my friends know that if they tell me a secret, it stays hidden. I don't feel the need to spill that kind of information to anyone. It's just not my nature. And I've managed to keep a few of my own for 64 years, except from people closest to me who are no longer alive. I have learned, over the years, who I could trust with a secret and who I could not. A story came back to me from someone I didn't even like. She knew about a secret and she revealed it back to me like a snake about to devour its prey. I never spoke with her again and I ended the friendship that had spilled the beans. And since that day I've never shared another secret with someone I wasn't sure I could trust. Then again, if a secret needs to truly stay secret, it should never be shared. I learned that lesson, as well. Some things are better off left in the dark. -Claudia- image from pixabay

I don't like to know anyone's secrets. I have always told people if they tell me, they tell me AND my husband because I didn't keep secrets from him. That stopped a lot of gossip from coming my way. Now I just try to stay out of the gossip loop! Some love knowing a secret but I don't want to know it or even know someone has a secret.

That's a better way to live, Jean. Since I hardly ever see people anymore, I have no more secrets to keep and it's a lighter way to live!

I have never told a secret that someone tells me. I will take it to the grave with me. I try to always be a trustworthy person. My son however, you cannot tell him anything because the minute someone walks in the door he is blabbing about it. Lol

lol! That's how a lot of people are. They just love gossip. My mother used to be that way, unfortunately. I suppose I learned a lot from those days and hearing so much that I just didn't want to hear.

If a friend tells me something and say, this is between us. It stays between us. I have written stories and posts about my friends those are not secrets. I am in the process of publishing a book about my friend's lives.. I have asked them to read the stories and let me know if its ok to publish

Now that's fascinating! I love you're allowing them to give you the rights to their stories.

@CRK109 indeed! I would never publish anything that would upset a friend. 2 of them had gotten back to me and asked if I could change some of the details.. Which is fair enough

I know how it is to have something eat at you. I've been there myself. So even if someone brings up the topic to me, I just can't spill what I know. I wouldn't be able to live with myself.

I'm quite good at keeping secrets. If someone tells me a secret, I tend not to say anything. I just don't feel it's my place to reveal this secret. It's not mine to tell.

That's the best way to view it, Dominique! If they want to tell, it's up to them. For us, we are just the keeper of information.

I don't know you well enough to give you any advice on this topic. All I can say is that if you have a secret that would hurt you, then it needs to remain a secret. Otherwise it probably doesn't matter.

I can and have kept private stories or secrets to myself. I find that when I have been given special information it allows me to give that person a little bit more of a chance, and offer a sunny smile when I privately know that they may need that. I've never been one to gossip, it turns me off so people don't even tend to share stories with me.

I think because of my position as Director of Religious Education, people felt that they could come to me with their deep secrets. And I never shared them because I felt they were sacred. Since I no longer hold that job, some people come to me to try and gossip about those days. But I just play stupid. lol

Your last sentence says it all - once a secret is told it has the potential to not be one any more.

No secret of mine is a secret from God. That is something I know. And I don't worry about that because my God is a God of love.

Same here, what l gossip with someone( to me it`s gossip) or their secrets they tell me stays with me.Makes me feel cheap if im to go and repeat to the next person what someone told me in confidence. Like you, l feel there are some secrets i need to keep safe and that means NOT sharing them with a soul.

I learned a huge lesson the day my secret came back to haunt me. But I suppose it was good that it got out because then I wasn't afraid of people learning about it anymore. I found out that it really was no big deal to anyone but me after all. lol

I tend not to share things I don't want to get out. Kids are hilarious. I learn much more about their parents than their parents would want me to know.

I am good at keeping secrets too. I have such a hard time trusting most people because I am a people watcher. I watch their actions, listen to how they talk to other people about people and I keep them at arms length. I have been hurt by some folks talking, but I have learned that that shows more of their character or lack thereof, than what they have said about me. Have a blessed day

Actions really do speak louder than words. But then again, words can kill. So it's a two way street some of us have learned to travel very carefully.

Yes, Ms. Claudia, you can trust me with your secret hehehe!.Seriously, yes, I can be trusted with secrets. Your discussion title reminds of the 60's song with the same title. I'm not sure if it was The Beatles who sang it. Have a wonderful day, Ms. Claudia! I'm on my way out :)
