The ravages of Diabetes...

I don't know about other countries, but, the U.S. is being ravaged by a disease, I think, much more critical in its frequency than cancer and HIV put together...Diabetes.
The front singer of the band that I work in, who, himself is Type ll along with cholesterol coronary blockage, has just had two members of his family pass on from diabetes; his sister, a month ago and his brother this past weekend. Although, admittedly, they're big people in the three hundred pound range who 'love to eat'.
But, one has to wonder how much of Diabetes is genetic, a result of an out of control compulsion to eat anything and everything or a combination of both. It would be interesting and also educational if someone were to do a research on this condition that's affecting so many people nowadays.
What, MyLotters, are your thoughts on this 'epidemic'...?...

I think they are doing research on it because it has gotten to epidemic proportions. One thing they are finding is the link to fast food. People who eat a lot of fast food, tend to put on the weight, which is a precursor to Diabetes. I know I'm heavy, and I know it runs in my family, so some of it is genetic, but I don't think it needs to be. I'm doing what I can to get the weight down, but it's difficult. I am starting to lose weight and that is a plus. I'm hoping I can keep up the downward trend. I know it will be the best thing for me.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend in the band who lost two family members in the last month. That must be very hard on him.

Thanks for the good thoughts. And, being Type ll himself and other heart issues, he's doing his best trying to get off that 'seefood' syndrome. It's a though balancing act trying to cut back on food and still getting your proteins. Another important part of managing diabetes and weight loss is burning calories, staying physically active. By the way, nothing wrong with 'a little meat on the bone' either.

@Wordly1 A little meat on the bone for me has been detrimental to me. I'm not as active, out of breath all the time with the slightest activity, and just can't move like I want to. I need to lose this weight. I need to lose half of me.

@just4him Take it in steps. A little walk around the block. I use a little trick: When I go to the 'box store', I park as far as I can(within reason) and take a stroll. Another one: Try doing one, just one 'sit-up' each day until you feel strong enough for the second and so on...sounds crazy, but, it works. Confucius say: "Most important part of journey is first step"...remember Little Grass Hopper.

@Wordly1 - Yvon - Type II diabetes, early-on, is reasonably controllable through food intake and other aspects of healthy living - usually, anyway. That has to continue even after the medications begin. Back a time ago I worked with a dialysis center on an Indian reservation where more than half of the adult residents were diabetic - a gazillion of them. It was believed that the cause of this obvious diabetes "epidemic" was due to their change of diet from the native Indian foods to the ordinary USA junk food diet. Could be.

Maybe because the people with diabetes have a mom who always make a good food, so all the family alway eat and eat. Just wondering
