How to overcome depression?

Have you ever been depressed? Have you felt helpless? Have you lost your way? Have you lost your identity? What do you do in this situation? Most people at the prior stage fail to understand that they are suffering from depression. Next, they deny this to others and to themselves. Finally they end up drowning in own depression or doing something bad to themselves. Its just a message to anyone who is facing any of these difficulties. If you are not supported by anyone else, be your own guide and be strong. Its most advisable to consult a doctor. It doesn't mean your mad or unfit, it's a disease like any other and needs medication. Be free in your thoughts and "live, laugh and love". Feel free to share your views :)

I've never been so depressed. I mean too much of that. If ever I have problems I always share it to the boyfriend.

@Meha15 Yes. It helps a lot if you have someone to share your problem.

From the experiences I've had, I think the best thing to do is to accept. It may be hard but acceptance helped me a lot. It made me understand that some things just can't be. But is does not mean that you go nowhere, it also is saying that better things are coming. What we want is sometimes not the best for us.

A very thoughtful post One time a few years ago I was very depressed at the most critical time of my life till now. But with the help of my friends and family I pulled through. I passed a test and that made me confident, helped overcome some of the negativity. Right now, that time serves as a lesson and I'm very happy that I passed a difficult phase of life. If it had been uncontrollable, it would have been best to take a psychologist's or a doctor's help, like you said.

I think the best thing to do is to stay positive in the most difficult situation. Fake it till you make it.

I'm sorry for you, well I haven't really suffered it that much and these were just a first step thing. Most people find cure with medications but it varies from person to person. Someone in the above comments said that they found solution by escaping from people, while someone said their solution was to share. You should try to find your way and stay positive. Hope you overcome it :)

Taking doctor prescribed anti depression medicines is just one of the ways to overcome being depressed. I just think if the person is on the early stage of depression find someone to talk to and change the negative mindset. And just take each moment one step at a time, stay active and do things that you enjoy. Lastly, don't dwell on the negative aspects of life.
