Did you use a pacifier? Did/do your kids?

The pacifier. It's commonly seen used by babies but depending on the situation/parenting toddlers and young kids will keep using these things! I used a pacifier for much longer than I should have and I often wonder if that's part of the reason while I talk with my mouth closed, or at least try to. Did you use a pacifier? Did/do your kids? Do you remember having one in your mouth if you did use one?

Apparently as a baby I would spit it out and get rid of it. My son also would not use one when he was a baby. My view parents don't need these things and they are not good for the baby.

I think I talk the way that I do because I used one for so long. My sisters did not use one and they don't talk like how I talk.

@Bellatricks I have never heard of it affecting how people talk, but I am not saying it doesn't happen.

@pgiblett My mother said that I would try to talk while it was still in my mouth which meant I was basically keeping my mouth closed trying to keep the thing in. I am pretty sure that's why I don't open my mouth much when I talk since I was using the pacifier when I first learned to talk.

@cherrylicious Well for me personally I don't open my mouth much when I talk. I pretty much mumble because when I was learning to talk I was using the pacifier. When I had the pacifier in my mouth I tried to talk and keep it in my mouth at the same time so I just developed a habit of basically trying to talk with my mouth closed.

I never used a pacifier as a kid, as far as I know. We had some when my eldest was born. We tried to use them, and give them to her, but she kept spitting them out, as soon as they got into her mouth. So, we kind of gave up. With my second, we might have tried once or twice, with as much success as with our first. With our youngest, we had already given up on the whole pacifier thing.

My parents say that I loved my pacifier. They told me that it was very hard to convince me to give it up, but I don't remember it.

I used one as a baby but my mom got me off it when I was a year old. My children all took one except for my youngest son-he hates it.

A = no pacifier B = one and only one pacifier that he liked. It got lost when he was around 6 months old. Gave up on the pacifier idea. C= wasn't interested D= wasn't interested E= wasn't interested F= took a pacifier for a few months and then gave it up Funny thing, now when I babysit, E and F both want to suck on the daycare kids' pacifiers. I don't recall having a pacifier. Though my sister sucked her thumb for a long time.
