Light my Fire

Last year I saw an idea of using an old washing machine tub for a fire pit.
I have several old washing machine tubs. I have planted stuff in them in the past. One is being used for compost in my back lot.
I had an old rebar frame that someone made to hold a flower pot. It is perfect to hold my washing machine drum. Last week we found a replacement grill for a barbecue at Wal Mart. We are using it as a top spark shield.
At the end of the day, after our chores and running around, we decided to try it out. It is lovely in the dark.
We have it away from everything that could catch fire or melt, but near the hot tub.
This is my picture of my "red neck fire pit". I like it, and it was free. Now you know where all the tree limbs are going to go.
Fire pits are really popular in our community. Are they allowed where you live?

I canĀ“t light a fire here, except to have a very small barbecue. We are not even allowed chimneys anymore.

I know that there are communities that do not allow burning due to pollution. Other times there are bans on burning due to fire hazards. With all the rain we have had lately it is safe if the fire is contained as we did. We also put limestone rocks beneath the fire pit.

@Anitismo around here those same people would be smoking or using heavily fragranced cleaning products while complaining about wood smoke. Our neighbors are not that close, and we do not have a really big fire either.

I have seen the tire rim ones, and we have talked about doing a stacked rim fire pit, but we have these and it seems pretty good to me.

@GardenGerty I'm not sure that I know what a stacked rim fire pit is, our rim is sunk into the ground and then the bricks are 3 high so that nobody accidently walks into it when its dark or when it isn't lit. We also have a nice mesh lid with a handle on it to cover it.

I am really not sure if they are allowed here Heather.
What a novel idea though.

I know that some places in Colorado were not allowing even wood burning fire places due to pollution.

I don't know if they allow fire pits here, but since I live in a mobile home park I wouldn't use one for fear of starting a fire. BTW love your "redneck fire pit" lol.

Probably not allowed in a mobile home park, you are correct. Too close together with the neighbors.

@GardenGerty Yup, even if they did allow it I wouldn't use one.

We have to be careful and so that is why I am so glad to have this fireproof place to burn wood.

I tried to get my husband to use one of the tubs from an old washer as a fire pit. His response was "who is going to clean it out after the fire is done?"
We do have a firepit. It is made of brick and goes about 2 feet into the ground. We got permission from the landlord to have a firepit when we first moved in. She complained about it though. She forgot that she told us we could have on as long as it was away from trees and the trailer.
The only time we can't have a fire is when there is a no burn order. It has been lifted. Can't wait to have a family get together and have a fire for everyone to gather around and the young ones and the young at heart to roast marshmallows and make smores.

I live in a housing apartment complex at the edge of a capitol city. Not many fire pits have I seen around here. Would be nice and relaxing though. Like bringing a camp site down to town.

we live out in the country, as long as there is no burn ban we can just pile up stuff and burn it

We have one in the back yard, and it's getting loaded with wood for the last bonfire before we move.
