I have watched some videos and seen how dangerous some cults can be. The fact is cults still exist. Do you really think it is important for a person to be associated with a cult? Why do we humans need other human to be closed to god? Why cant we seek from god itself? Was just pondering on this thought and thought it would be nice to know other members view.

The fact that cult exists is due to the people who want to believe in someone who tells them that they are very special.
That is the way that cults draw in their followers.
They make the followers feel that they are so special that they deserve salvation, and that the rest of the world are ignorant or greedy or whatever.

@zap_81 Cults are just a form of brainwashing.
In the end, they believe that they are right, and the rest of the world are wrong, and they believe that they are lucky to meet their leaders, and get selected.
Perhaps it is not surprising that many followers are actually very high educated persons.
They are already very arrogant, and being in a cult makes them feel more arrogant, and perhaps more exclusive.

@Bluedoll I am not talking in general but there is a history which cannot be ignored. I have noticed 3 things common in all cults. 1 being the master or Guru, 2nd being some connection to religion or faith and 3rd being a sense of superiority against the other. These are things you cannot ignore. That said I am no way saying that all cults are bad but the fact that some of them have fooled so many people is something which cannot be ruled out.

I think we feel the need to belong and for something bigger than us to absolve us of all that we can't bring ourselves to forgive ourselves for. I personally don't see how some people do it. The second the cult starts telling me to give stuff up that normally people wouldn't ask you to I would start questioning it all.

But I feel why should you be a part of it in the first instance. I really would want to know what draws them. The history itself is a lesson. We have so many cults in my country and I am unable to understand how can people submit themselves to the so called "Guru" .

We'd better ask God to help us find out what He wants us to do, to find out his will - as he knows the truth. See John 17:3

Let me pick your brain? What is your definition of a cult as opposed to a sect or a religion? Are not all religions cults? Why or why not? Did not all religions start as a cult? Which group would you classify as a cult? Christianity started with Jesus Christ and was it not considered as a cult by the other religions and the Roman empire?

God can be found from within I believe....the cults are basically a way to make up for some people's depressing time.

Cults are not always associated with worshiping God or gods; sometimes it is just a group which espouses something which they think is right. Some could be blind followers.

@zap_81 It keeps on growing or new ones popping up when there are people who are attracted to it.

@acelawrites The sad part is people are not ready to learn from history. I hope they do in the future.
