Did anyone watch this? It was really fantastic. Such great acting and attention to detail. SOmeone on a chat site told me about it or I never would have known about it. It was really good. I did miss the first episode, but I am sure they will replay it.

if I'm not mistaken, its all about the slavery of the black people during the early times.

You should watch the original classic Roots miniseries which was longer in length.

I probably have seen it, but this one, was more invested in the details, and had great historical accuracy, at least as much as they could. One of the former plantations where he was taken is close to here. I wonder about it all when I drive by.

@xfahctor Exactly my point. And being a period piece, the original would not looked dated. But everyone wants shiny new.

I did watch it and it was pretty good. But not nearly as good as the original. The story took a very different path in the newer one. The problem with that is that the original story was not only historical, it was biographical. The story was the family history of the author, Alex Haley. In changing the story, they in effect changed the family history of the author.

I am not really sure about that...They were very accurate in the details in terms of the history of the Mandinka people, the ships, etc. whereupon the first Roots, got some of the historical details wrong. However, I was thinking there should be a historical placque in the county, as to the slaves to but there are no confirmed details on the exact family...in VA or NC land records, I noticed on Wiki.
