People, like crops and animals, also increase in quality and variety

I have come to the above conclusion based on observation of people I know and those around me. The children of today grow taller than their parents, probably because of the good food they eat and the vitamins they take. Their parents must have struggled in life to rear their children well that they chose to have little for themselves as long as their children were not wanting. Generally, the children of today are more intelligent and wiser than their parents. They are quick to learn new things and are more daring. They achieve higher education than their parents did. The children of today, after they graduate from school and find jobs, are generally in a much better economic state than their parents. Some though, live in luxury because of inheritance from their parents. I had this experience of visiting this sweet old widow for 4 years until she passed away at 103. She and her husband (who died way ahead of her) only finished the elementary grades but all her children were professionals, majority of whom were lawyers. She even confided to me that her son who was also a lawyer but became a mayor later was the dullest. Why? Because he graduated from college only as a "cumlaude" while the rest of his siblings were either "summacumlaude" or "magnacumlaude".

Many say that children today are ore intelligent and wiser than their parents, but I think it's not true. They are only more informed about what happens around them and they have plenty of electronic gadgets that help. I see that my niece is not more intelligent or wiser than I was.

I think you're more right there, Ms. Anna. They seem more intelligent because of technology available to them hehehe! Thanks :)

Kids are not more intelligent than they were generations ago. Who do you think brought all those inventions before? They are only building on to what was done before them.

On the contrary, kids from the new generation are more exposed to preservatives and chemicals.

Yes, that's right and the effect will be in the long run but as it is - compare yourself with your children - I'm sure they are far healthier than you because you provide them with everything they need - food, vitamins, etc. while I'm sure you have been provided less than you have provided for your children not because your parents cared less for you but because maybe of financial constraints.

You have provided for your children well because you worked hard in Japan despite missing them. And now you have relocated yourself to Bermuda where the grass may be greener LOL!

They were so blessed because despite them having finished only elementary grades , they were able to raise intelligent children who grew up graduating with high honors and are now professionals . That's why i envy people who have five or more children and all of them succeeded in life . Poor lawyer , for her mother he is the dullest , because he only graduated with a lower honor . Didn't she know that anyone can be suma or magna if they are diligent in studying ? A cousin of my husband graduated " cumlaude" yet didn't pass the board exam . While a classmate who seem like a carefree one passed . How's that ?

@sunrisefan So you see , it's difficult to be a cumlaude or whatever honor , because when you didn't pass they will "but she's with honor " .

Luck sometimes plays in role in the board exams hehehe! When my daughter took the CPA board exams, there were 22 of them with 12 cumlaudes. One did not make it and she was a cumlaude but she failed because of her heart condition which bothered her 2 weeks before the board exam. She took the next board and made it though.

Well maybe because of the advanced technology that enable them to learn so many things.

It could be partly the advanced in technology that made these kids nowadays more widely exposed. They learn and get their knowledge a lot through electronic devices which is more interesting to learn from. Some may just be playing games but it does make their minds active. At times they learn without knowing than to burry them in books.

I think most of the time management decides how the quality of living will be. some of the times chemicals and bad food means bad generation.

It's true that parents want more for their children than what they were given. I had to laugh at the cumlaude.

With the way technology changes, I would expect that even my grandchildren will outdistance their parents, just as I've outdistanced my parents because advances were made with the industrial revolution. I don't know what the term is for today's advancement, but because we are always advancing, each generation will be more advanced than the previous one.

That's true, Ms. Valerie. Advancement continues over the years, otherwise people would be stagnant or regress.
