Favorite Breakup Songs #5 - "Heartache"

#5 in my Favorite Breakup Songs series takes us to Wales, birthplace of Gene Loves Jezebel.
Gene Loves Jezebel was formed in 1980 by twin brothers Jay and Michael Aston. The band is often considered goth (and a case can be made for some of their early stuff,) but they did most of their damage as an alternative glam-pop outfit (the All Music Guide once called them the "hair metal version of a goth band," which is actually fairly accurate.)
Their 1986 album, Discover, contains one of my favorite breakup songs, "Heartache." "Heartache" was a minor hit, reaching #71 in the UK, and #25 on Billboard's Dance Music/Club Play Singles chart. The song did manage a good amount of airplay on college and alternative radio station's, however, and the accompanying video did get a little love from MTV.
"Heartache" is sad. It's a bit upbeat for such a sad tune, but it is pure 80's glam-pop, which I like.

I see "Heartache" in the title of the discussion and I think, "Oh, cool, a Violent Femmes song." Not hardly. Good song anyway!!

I remember them. You sure bring in a lot of music that I forgot about.

One Last Cry" by Bryan Mcnight
My shattered dreams and broken heart
Are mending on the shelf
I saw you holding hands
Standing close to someone else
Now I sit all alone
Wishing all my feelings was gone
I gave my best to you
Nothing for me to do
But have one last cry
[Chorus:]
One last cry
Before I leave it all behind
I gotta put you out of my mind this time
Stop living a lie
I guess I'm down to my last cry
Cry.....
I was here
You were there
Guess we never could agree
While the sun shines on you
I need some love to rain on me
Still I sit all alone
Wishing all my feelings was gone
Gotta get over you
Nothing for me to do
But have one last cry
[Chorus:]
One last cry
Before I leave it all behind
I gotta put you out of my mind
For the very last time
Stop living a lie
[Bridge:]
I know I gotta be strong
Cause round me life goes on and on
And on ....
And on ....
[Chorus:]
One last cry
Before I leave it all behind
I gotta put you out of my mind
For the very last time
Been living a lie
I guess I'm down,
I guess I'm down,
I guess I'm down...
I guess I'm down...
To my last cry...

Sorry, I'm not familiar with it. It might come to me later, but for now, I'm drawing a blank.

Yes, someone else who remembers Gene Loves Jezebel! I have their Greatest Hits CD which naturally includes Heartache, a great song.

I've seen them three times, including at Red Rocks with New Order and Echo and the Bunnymen.
