Last Thursday I visited the Doctor. She decided I needed a complete health check which I thought was a great idea. I had blood tests and all kinds of other tests and two hours later I left the surgery. Next day I was asked to come back to talk about the results of my tests. This sounded rather urgent to me, but I waited for a week because I had already made an appointment for today.
I tried hard not to think about what my results may have been, were they negative or positive? I had no idea. Finally, today arrived and off I went to my appointment. As I waited in the surgery I looked at the receptionist to see if she was concerned or even knew about me. Nothing there. Then I got to see the Nurse, I tried to see if she knew anything but she didn't.
Finally, I went in to the Doctor's room. I tried to gauge from her face whether or not there was a problem No, everything was great, except I was lacking in Vitamin D, which is kind of weird since I live in a country where there is sunshine almost every day.
I went home, jubilant at the thought I was not going to die just yet. Maybe because I work in a hospital one day a week these thoughts are in my mind. Anyhow I was so relieved I took the dog out for two walks today and had a long sleep in the afternoon.
Life is good

Glad all went well for you and all is in order. Hopefully she gave you some calcium and Vit D supplements? The receptionists do not understand blood results they just tell you if the Dr says they are ok. I asked for results one time she told me the Dr said they are ok. I said no read out the numbers for me which she did and said I don't know what it means I told her well I will let you into a secret it means I am up the duff. She dropped the phone laughing!

I don't know anyone over 50 who has not been told by a doctor that they were low in Vitamin D. It's the new fad in doctoring. Then they want you to take a huge dose of Vitamin D daily for a short period of time. I think it's simply a trend, and it's probably better to take smaller doses of D regularly and get 20 minutes of sunshine, drink milk, and be happy.

Those situation let us really feel very nervious, when they phone us to pick up the results. I have been in the situation where the doctor ordered me to phone the family of some patients. The only thing I was allowed to tell them on phone is that the doctor wants to see them, because he has to talk to them. Even knowing the patients history, of course I couldn't give any answer to all their questions. It's a quite difficult situation.
