California's Smoking Age raised from 18 to 21 today!

The first state to raise the age was Hawaii, now effective today in California, you will need to be 21 to purchase tobacco products. AND Vaporizers, vape liquid and other electronic smoking products are also treated as tobacco products under this new law. Another *thought* is to increase a pack of cigarettes to be $7.
What are your thoughts about raising the tobacco age? Would you want your state to take part in the age increase?
I personally do not smoke, never smoked but I do feel by restricting the "age", many will want to disobey the law and do it to be "cool".

I am not a smoker at all. I personally think this is a good law. It is not good at all to smoke. And it is better to protect the youngs from smoking. I hope here will have a strict law for it, too. As sometimes I can see some high school students smoke in the street.

@youless that would be nice but those who are addicted will not be too happy about it though!

I am not a smoker too! I like the law, just think that since it was 18, now pushed to 21 - many younger generations will want to rebel.

Some people might go crazy if there is a total ban. But if the price increases, they will be broke!

They won't ban it here as there is too many organizations profiting from it. Think about it, the farmers get subsidies (as it was the first successful crop in the US brought over from Europe), the states and federal government make alot in tax money, insurance companies make money by charging larger premiums, hospitals and Dr's make money treating illnesses related to smoking, and big pharma makes money making meds to treat the subsiquent illnesses.

It is nice to hear they are trying to move closer to ban smoking products or make it expensive.

@infatuatedbby People never pay attention to that particular addiction, yet they should.

Anyone underage will find a way for someone else to buy the cigs, just like they do for booze. I smoked from age 13 until 15 years ago. No one could tell me they were bad...no I pay the price with COPD. Its far easier to never start smoking than to quit.

Even at the age of 18, many smoked before the age anyway same with drinking. You are right. By increasing the age. It is just adding flare in my opinion.

@infatuatedbby Yup - just gives kids another reason to test/cheat the system.

@AbbyGreenhill Totally true! Wonder if they thought it true before deciding to raise the age limit..

I believe that young people will do it whether at age 18 or 21. However, it is a horrible habit that is hard to break. Fortunately, I have never smoked in my life.

I never smoked also. Regardless of the law age, young people will still smoke regardless of the limit.

Oregon is also considering such a law and I hope that we do pass it.It will be harder for minors to get the products since we have strict enforcement.

That is good if you have strict enforcement. I don't think the enforcement is that strict where I live.

I was under the impression that Colorado had already done this. Either way, I see a lot of kids smoking, so they're getting them somewhere.

Yes, I do see a lot of younger generations smoking too. They get their ways regardless of age increase!

Yes it should be stopped. Glad, you stopped - it is better for you and those surrounding you too!
