Does success really depends only on hard work?

June 9, 2016 11:46pm CST
I had always been a good student since childhood. But then things changed and I failed in college exams. I was so depressed by the taunts of my father that I couldn't think of anything but to succeed. I started studying really hard for an entrance exam that was my dream. Within few months, I took the exam and got a rank 709 among more than 40k aspirants. It was like my whole efforts and hard work have paid off. But luck, that has never favored me, came like a blow on my face. My father refused to grant me admission in that reputed college just because of one reason-"You have wasted my money in the past year(as i had failed in exam) and so you will waste my money again. I can't spend hundreds of thousands on you again." My world came crashing. All my dreams shattered. I pleaded, but alas! He never agreed with me. Today I am at a very good position in my job. But i am not satisfied. I have settled for it. It wasn't my dream. When I look back. I always think I could have been much better than what I am today. I might have been living my dreams. "I didn't choose my life. I settled for it."

I believed that, being successful does not really depends on the hard work you make. It should always be accompanied with such intelligence to truly uphold success in life. Hard work is just useless without an intellect leading by it. You can't make things efficient as well as effective if there is no knowlegde at all, which leads you to become a successful well-being.

Some people get lucky in seeing their dreams succeed, but others have to work for it. If you feel that you have settled, it's not too late to start over :-) find your dream and start taking those baby steps toward it. You can do it!!

@ShivamChauhan that stinks. I was unaware that some schools had an age limit. Well then, work hard and read lots. You can be successful at anything you put your mind to!

@ChildofGod81 Yes for some professional courses we have age limits here. Yes I need to put in more efforts in my job. Thanks for this stupendous support.

@ChildofGod81 Actually I can't go back to my college and study again for it. I am overage now for pursuing that course. I will bring out the best from what i have got.

I have the same thoughts from time to time. If I had made a different choice what then? Looking back at your life could you have been independent and got a student loan? That is what I did and payed the money back. If not then was it not within your power to change?

@ShivamChauhan That is difficult pill to swallow. Like business 101 where investor's for your new startup wouldn't give you the go ahead. Life is so unkind sometimes as our hard work is not always rewarded.

@Bluedoll Lol. Yes. Happens sometimes. But I think God has some different plans for us which may be much better than ours. So, I think now I should be more concerned with what I have rather than wondering what I could have.

@Bluedoll Yes I went to at least 7 banks in order to get an education loan. But they said that they needed signatures of my father on the documents because my mother was not a working lady; a housewife. They said they couldn't finance loan unless my father signs the documents needed. But my father refused to do that.

I am sorry this happened to you. It is hard to settle especially when you want more. It is also expensive to get am education though it is so important to have one. I hope that someday you can go back to school and finish your degree using your money and applying for loans and paying them back or applying for grants you do not have to pay back. It is a lot of work but you can work and go to school at the same time. You can do figure out a way to make it work for you. I have done it and continue to try to do it and it is challenging but doable and worth it. Good luck to you.

Would it be possible for you to go back to school and take up the course you were interested in before? I can't say that luck is not a factor in life events. It is. But it is something we have no control of. Opportunities also come in different ways. There are many success stories of people who never graduated from college that attest to this. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are the more famous examples.

No. Not possible now. @josie_ That is why I said luck is also one of the determining factors.
