I used to work outside in an office 25 kms away from home. Travelling to and fro was taxing to my health, so I got into contractual mode and now work from home for few hours. I also have the responsibility of taking care of my kids'day to day studies. How are all of you coping this, are you too in such a situation and taken such a step or quit from work. What is the situation of working mothers in your country?

You are quite lucky to be able to make the change. Over here, children are usually put in childcare that starts from 7 am and they will stay there till 7 pm, unless their parents can get off work early to fetch them. Then they will eat out and reach home for shower and storytelling or watching TV or doing homework before they sleep at 10 pm. Their parents will sleep a bit later.

@durgabala Here the government encourages everyone to work, so the government pays half or more of the childcare fees so that both parents can work. I think that is reasonable, but not good for the society for parents to spend so much time at work.

Ok. Yes, many of them have told this. Eat out - at their child care? Here too there are many child care centers that have the facility of keeping the children for 12 hours with catering facility. But most are very expensive.

Like you I quit work and started my own business.. but that was 24x7 work so I shut down all activity and focused on my children. I would rate that as one of the best decisions I have taken in life so far after 13 years.
