A Song That Makes Me Happy

There are quite a few; REM’s Happy Shining People (featuring Kate Pearson from the B-52’s) may be my favourite and it has its roots in criticism that they were a gloomy downbeat band - it remains a huge colourful contrast to much of their work, though they did have another happy dance about foot tapping hit with Stand. Another happiness inducer is Bobby McFerrin’s Don’t Worry Be Happy which is deliberately sung to sound as gloomy and pessimistic as possible which strangely adds to its feel-good factor. One hint of genuine sorrow attached to it tough – the video features the now deceased comedian, Robin Williams. I could add Happy Talk from South Pacific, or its Captain Sensible cover version, but Shiny Happy People wins for me. Youtube – REM – Shiny Happy People Arthur Chappell

A great song. I placed that one in my B52s list because of the Kate Pierson connection. It's the only time R.E.M. was ever cheerful.

REMs Losing my Religion makes me happy not because of the lyrics but because everybody would sing along everytime..

@MGjhaud Losing My Religion is my favourite REM song as it reflects my own separation from organized beliefs

I don't know this song so I'll try to get back later to listen to it. We're off to do some shopping at the moment.

Huh, had no idea that was anR.E.M. song, but if I had to choose off the top of my head, it would be Pinkie Pie's song "Smile" from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic episode:"A Friend Indeed."
