Too many foods not allowed to eat anymore

Just after my trip, I have noticed that mom's getting thinner. Her face has many wrinkles and her hair is getting few. Her face that was lively before is now dull. She cannot eat a lot anymore. I suggested her foods that she loved to eat before but she just always nod and just want water always. It makes me feel miserable that she is getting old and I wish I could do something to make her eat more. She has a diabetes and the doctor always tell her not to eat much fruits or rice. I somehow hate the doctors for such as if my mom cannot enjoy more the foods and she has started to lose appetite.
Had you been in such a situation or are you taking care of an old parent or relatives?

I just remember what my mother always tells me... I should bring her out more often while she can still walk and still has the appetite to eat.

I loved to do that but my mom does not like that idea. She things eating outside or travelling is a waste of money and I should just save the money rather than do those things.

My uncle has diabetes and he has lots of meds to take. He takes his blood regularly by himself to check his sugar level and he still enjoys eating food in moderation. He travels around the world as much as he can to enjoy his life.
I don't know how severe the situation of your mom is.

How old is your uncle? Mom is already on her mid 60`s and has a poor eyesight and weak legs. I thank God that my other sister sometimes become free to stay in the house and look after mom while my another sister and I are both in our job.

Trying new recipe for her seems not the best idea because I am not good in cooking. I sent her to the doctor but the doctor wants her to undergo some laboratory exam first before giving her anything to take.

I am sorry to hear that. But it is true that the diabetic can't eat many kinds of food and actually they can't eat a lot each time. They really have to pay good attention to the diet. Otherwise the result can be so horrible. As I have a relate who were cut her feet because she couldn't control her diabetes well and it led to a horrible result.

It is very heart wrenching to see my mom getting old and weak. All I want is to see her happy so I tried to spend money to her but I know money cannot buy happiness.

maybe check with the doctor (or another doctor) in case she has other medical conditions or if her meds need changing? try to probe if she has other symptoms (nararamdaman) that she might not be sharing with you.

@annierose hope she agrees to a checkup and tells the doctor everything that she's feeling so she can be diagnosed properly.

@hereandthere It is not hard to convince mom for a health check up. The problem is that it is very difficult for her to take medicines because she is not used to it.

Mom did not know before that she has diabetes because we do not have relatives with diabetes so she thinks that she was safe from it. But one day when she went outside for pedicure, the pedicurist advised her to see a doctor as she thinks that mom has it. I do not know what did the pedicurist observed in my mom's foot.

@skysnap I think so it happens too. I am trying to not indulge myself in too much sugar too but sweet foods are really tempting especially cakes and ice creams.

@annierose some of the people also have the diabetes due to lifestyle .. and often that's not genetic though.

In the year 1989 my mother was in the same position. One more problem she had was 'bleeding' and became anemic. Her face and body became pale. The Doctor tested on her and wrote some medicines along with tonic. But, when she visited an ayurvedic doctor, who happened to be our relative, he just suggested her to boil a cup of milk in the night and put 4 figs in it. Eat them along with the milk after washing the face. She did it. Within 10 days she became normal. You can do it immediately.
Note: only 4 figs must be used.
They must be only added to the boiled milk. Leave it for the whole night.
Do not prepare a shake using mixer etc.,

I am not sure if we have figs in my country. The taste of herbal medicines are also like the taste of the commercial medicines - not good.

@annierose Yes they are available there. This is a fruit. Better I call it a dry fruit. You can try it.
