How Many Starving Children Could Be Fed With That Suit?

A question was asked in the comments on my post about Hillary's $12,000 jacket concerning how many children could be fed with the money spent on Hillary's jacket. Those of you who know me, know such a question immediately set off my google gene, so won't be surprised to learn I looked it up.
According to once source I found, world food organizations can provide food for a day to a starving child in a drought ridden, war torn, or poverty stricken country for about 35 cents a day. In a reply to the comment reference above I determined Hillary's jacket would be able to feed about 90 children for a year.
In another comment, someone mentioned the Donald's suits are reported to cost around $7,000 each. I replied that it would be nice if he could make do with $700 suits and give the rest to charity. Since we can be reasonably certain the Donald doesn't wear the same suit twice in a week, and probably not twice in a month, but we'll stick with a week, with just 7 lower priced suits, Mr. Trump could feed 345 starving children for a year.
And before you ask, yes, my wife and I try to do our part. We sponsor a young girl in Latin America with a monthly amount to cover the cost of her schooling, food, and clothing, as well as extras on her birthday and at Christmas. We also donate to support an orphanage in Central America built by one of our former pastors.
If you are able to, would you be willing to buy a less expensive jacket or other article of clothing or footwear and donate the difference to a charity like Feed The Children, where 91 cents of every dollar goes to feed and educate undernourished youth?

@jillybean1222 If you carefully research the charities you want to give to, you can avoid the ones that spend too much on administration and not enough on programs. The Salvation Army is one of the best in that regard.

Yes! I would. This year I have been donating to the St Jude`s children`s hospital, I had the D.A.V. call and ask for money, I told him no I couldn`t and he insisted that I could spare $15 and I told him no I cant, I gave it to St. Jude`s and then I got as rude as he was and said thanks for calling Goodbye and hung up.

There is just no reason to buy clothing that expensive usually they only wear them one time. I like that you thought so much into this and wrote about it! You and your wife are so kind to sponser the girl in Latin America and donating to the orphanage.

I rarely buy new clothes and rarely buy unnecessary stuff any more. If I do I usually go through a bit of a guilt trip. But I'd never spend these amounts anyway. I do spend in other directions though if I'm truthful. We travel quite a bit and will be going overseas again next year. But our son lives in Ireland so we think the travel is justified.

@JudyEv I've often thought I'd like to spend a year or two living on the coast of Ireland, in a small seaside cottage just outside a village well away from any major cities, concentrating on my writing without all the distractions I have here at home.

Well done post. I understand the same criticism can be hurled toward Trump and his expensive suits but this is about what is being said. Trump is the first to remind you he is rich and revels in being rich and does not lecture on income equality. Clinton wears her Armani and has her hairdo that costs thousands (that was a story months ago) while lecturing on income equality. Trump makes no apologies for his wealth and is on record for tons of donations while the principle charity of the Clinton Foundation is Bill and Hillary Clinton. An independent group revealed a fraction of money to the foundation goes to good works while the Clintons have become vastly wealthy since leaving the White House broke.

$12,000 or $7,000 suits are just insane.

The only expensive stuff I own is electronics. I do not spend much on clothes or anything else. I can't feed too many children. I used to make pancakes for children at church on Sunday mornings. I volunteered in a non-profit thrift store for a couple of years. I do what I can. If everyone does what they can, the world will be a better place.

Wow. I didn't read your other post, but that's sad that politicians spend alot of money on clothes. I mean I think they could look nice in less money clothes and still look presentable. Happy Flag Day!!

Voters who were undecided about supporting Hillary may turn away from her due to something like this, but most of the folks who've already decided to vote for her are die-hard Kool-Aid drinkers who would vote for her even if they found out she eats baby seals for breakfast.

I love that you actually crunched the numbers on this.
We also support a child, through World Vision. And my eldest daughter has a jar that she's constantly filling with her hard-earned cash, so she can buy chickens or goats or emergency food, etc. through the same organization, for those in need.

Yes, sometimes when you put much thought in the excess of those who have the means for such excess, it's a little sad and sickening. I occasionally cater for the riche-rich of my city and when you see all the food go to waste, it's sometimes disturbing.
