The aroma of the coffee made me remember our grandfather, our father's father.
And unlike coffee, i have sweet memories of him.
Me and my older brother (#9) grew up with our grandfather. He was our guardian for ou parents are.both.earning somewhere in other province.
We didn't drink milk when we were supposed to be, instead we have coffee.
This coffee which he made.
Made in the sense that it is not.from coffee beans, but.roasted rice.
Yes, he will.took his time.roasting them, grind.and boil.
Smells.heavenly.
We also ate with just a ripe banana as our "ulam" or viand, picked from his plants or that of sour.fruit and dipped in a "bagoong"(fish sauce/paste) in a soup bowl made out from a coconut, we call that "duyog".
This memories, when we told them to our nieces and nephews, they get surprised and amazed how.we have survived with those meals.
We surely have survived because we are more appreciative rather than complain.
By the way, our.grandfather died silently on the afternoon of October 21, 1987. We didn't see that coming, thought he was just sleeping.
Any memories of.your.grannies?

Oh rice coffee ! I miss that too . We used to also drink that at breakfast when our grandparents by father side were still living . They influenced us in my father's house , since father likes it so much too , that our helper would regularly make them each morning , for breakfast .
It stopped when our helper got married .

My grand parents lived in Europe while I've always lived in North America. I only got to see them a few times. My dad's parents visited us once in awhile while my mother's dad visited only once in my lifetime. We did go and visit them when I was ten years old. They are good memories.

When you mentioned coffee and your grandfather I have to say I have the same memories. My grandfather used to let me share his coffee when I was young and even now I say my grandfather made me the coffee addict I am today

My grandfather used to sit behind me in church and smack me in the back of the head if I didn't stand up fast enough when we started to sing. lol It was all in good fun. He passed away a year ago...

Memories are a good thing.
Each memory makes you go back in the past.
I remember many things from my childhood of my years I have so far and good but bad memories.
But the important thing is to remember them good.

I never really knew any of my grandparents, since my mother was 39 when I was born. They were all gone by then.

I remember that coffee made of roasted rice. My grandmother used to make that for us in the early 60's. It was good and it smelt good. A comforting drink for the whole family. What about the sugar for this rice coffee? We sweetened it with dark brown sugar from sugar cane. Thanks for reminding me my childhood with my grannies.
