I've never been to your country but I've heard a lot of good things about Greece. That's a great view.

@Valantis You are right that the ancient constructions are everywhere, but they can be quite different. Such as here we see the Chinese ancient constructions everyday, this is why it is a new feeling to see the western ones. The difference is very attractive.

Ancient constructions. There are almost everywhere. Here in Volos there are the ruins from the port city Agchiallos. You can see houses and pillars that are really good preserved. Not only ancient the other day I was cruising and i found a banker from I think WW2 inside the city. It's now covered in moss and trees around it make it blur with the rest of scenery.

@youless I do really understand what you say. The ruins of Agchiallos that I mentioned, before are for me an everyday thing. I'm used in seeing them since I can remember my self. As for the different part I can't agree more since I really want to visit other places and see things I've never seen before.

Not me. The first thing that comes to my mind is the art, history, the Coliseum, Aristotle and... Olympics!
I've never been there, though. But I'd love to go there someday.

@Valantis Oh yeah, it's in Rome. I forgot. Sorry! Haha. Anyway, I have also read some about Socrates and Plato, especially the Apology by Plato.

@Tierkreisze Truth be told when someone mentions Sokrates they usually mean the Apology by Plato because Sokrates never wrote anything. All we know for him and his vast knowledge comes mostly by that book.

That's really nice... Unfortunately Coliseum is in Rome... A quite often mistake since the Roman's concurred Greece at some point making a big leap in their architecture by copying Greek's. If you like Aristotle you should also read Sokrate and Plato.

Well there is a good reason for that. The Argonauts started their journey from the city you see in this photo from Volos. They sailed to Troy where they fought for 10 years and then Odysseus sailed from Troy to Ithaca for another 10 years and all started at this port!

Greece is in my top five list because of it's history and culture. While, I know quite a lot about it's academic history, I don't know much about the common life-on-the-streets there.

@Valantis I'd like to know more about the daily life in the cities. Like what an average person's weekend would be like...

@esotericme I'll start talking about the place I live but in most cases that happens everywhere. In summer the weekends the is empty well most of it...because the beach ( very few cities don't have a beach near them) is really close. Most cases 15 minute drive. There are places that the beach isn't so close it takes around 45 minutes to reach it. There you can enjoy the sea. Either with golden sand or pebbles (really that's up to your taste). Volos is iconic for a specific type of "restaurant". They are called "tsipouradika" (no need to translate the name). In these you can relax and enjoy tsipouro which is served in small bottles of 25ml (a small glass) and they also bring you seafood snacks ( this is not the best description but is close enough). Usually after all this everyone is getting back to the city and they find another way to continue. That can be a bar a club or the most known mpouzoukia ( no need to translate that either :P ) there you can dance and drink (of course). After all this (you know around 6 in the morning) you can still go on for patsa and calf head soup. They might sound gross but they really help with the hangover! (I prefer pasta)

That academic history sounds really interesting. I hope you can share with the rest of us some new information. Since I've never been abroad I would really like to know What others know about my country. As for the life-on-the-streets it depends on what you want to know more. You would like to know a specific city and the daily life? Or you want to know about the nature beyond the city limits?

I see you have chosen only islands . NOw what to comment first... Santorini The island on a volcano ( I haven't been there yet ) they say that there is the greatest sunset you will ever see in your life it happens in August. Rhodes the island with the great castle-city. At port of Rhode is where the great statue of Colossus. And lastly but not least Chania in Crete. I must warn you for that place there are some rules . If someone there offers you a drink of raki (they are really hospitable so you will possible find yourself in such a situation) you must drink otherwise it is considered an insult. And always keep in mind that the girls there usually have at least 2 brothers that don't like flirt their sisters

"Endless blue sea, good food and hospitable" - Greece sounds like paradise on earth! I hope I can visit it some day. I like to visit all the historical places, ruins and understand the early Christianity as in the Bible.
