After the dreadful gun incident in Florida last week we too have had a very nasty incident here in the UK today. One of our MP's was shot in the head three times and stabbed multiple times.
This poor woman, Jo Cox had just finished her constituency surgery, meeting local people who can go to their MP with their problems and they would try to help or advise them. She was well known for supporting refugees.
The man approached her shouting Put Britain First before shooting her three times in the head. As she was on the ground he started to kick then stabbed her until he was overcome by passersby then finally the police.
The poor woman leaves a husband and two children. What a disgraceful thing to happen. It seems the man has already been named and is apparently a loner.
The referendum campaigns have stopped campaigning for the rest of the day and flags will be flown at half mast.
Prayers go out to her family and friends.

Many of these monsters are/were loners. Maybe as a society we need to do a better job at linking people with organizations and clubs at an early age, and making sure this continues into adulthood. You never hear about someone who is happy and well loved picking up a weapon and slaughtering strangers in public.

@ElizabethWallace Most youngsters in the UK used to join the boy scouts or girl guides. For young kids it was cubs or brownies. There are sport clubs, dance clubs and all kinds of activities kids can join. These days kids are far too wrapped up on computer games to join such clubs. They are waning these days which is sad. There are many different types of clubs available for youngsters.
There are also adult clubs such as Women's institute, working men's clubs, special interest or hobby groups, history societies further education colleges, military clubs but not everyone joins such clubs. There are also church clubs, charity clubs such as Rotary and Lions. They are there if they are wanted but these loner people have become social misfits and probably would not fit into these social type clubs and probably have some form of mental health problem like schizophrenia.. I agree social isolation gives people way too much time on their hands and they start to ruminate in a type of fantasy world.
People complain that youngsters have nothing to do which is complete and utter rubbish. With all the very expensive computer games and now telephones kids are not introduced to these groups. Just look and see how many morons have their eyes transfixed on their phones as you walk or drive around. They are oblivious to their surroundings.

@garymarsh6 Loners are alone because it is not easy for them to make friends. Therefore, we must all put forth a little effort to include them in society. The quiet ones live inside their own heads instead as part of society. This isolation makes them miserable. Miserable people do miserable things.
I think every school child should be required to join some sort of group (of his or her choice). Every community should have a local place where people can socialize easily (like your pubs).

@garymarsh6 This is what I am reading in the press. It's a shame she did not asked for protection when she had the feeling to be in danger.

@LadyDuck It is quite sickening Anna. Who would ever think of such a thing but all MP's have to be accessible to the people they represent. This event is a rarity thank God. I think all MP's are now in consultation with police and safety advisor's.

@garymarsh6 I did not read about Sir Bob's shenannigans, but let us hope the ranting for Leave or Stay stops for a while, to let people collect their thoughts and cool down, calm the jets so to speak.

I heard about this news in my morning and felt very sad that she was killed for no reasons. Some of the fanatics are so cruel that they kill innocent people.

@garymarsh6 - Yes, it is was most gruesome murder done by her own security Guards, whom she trusted like anything.
In yesterday's newspaper I saw the picture of MP who was killed. She looks so beautiful and innocent and it is really sad that a fanatic cut short her life.

Very sad news. I guess she is someone akin to a senator?? She represents a town and is their member of parliament. She was seeing her constituents in a session which we call a surgery. Anyone with a problem can ask their MP to help them. They generally get a very good result if they are involved in anyones difficulties. It seems this guy objected to her helping refugees.

It is disgraceful, you have to wonder where the crazies are coming from, that they think their actions make any difference other than the loss to innocent families.
