I Love The Boonies

I met my oldest son at the Go Station in Aldershot at 4pm. The Go Station is Ontario's mass transit (fast train). It's easier on him to pick me up there because he drives a truck, and yesterday he was pulling a trailer with a huge Hot Tub on it.
There is more space/parking there than in my neighbourhood.
With the size of his vehicle yesterday it was easier to handle on highways instead of small town living. And it saved us over an additional hour on our trip to my daughter's home in the boonies.
At 4PM on Friday night the highways were a mess. Driving through Toronto and road construction was a nightmare. We arrived at my daughter's home at 9:30 tired but happy to be off the highway and home for the weekend.
I slept like a baby.
The house was still asleep when I woke up at 7:00, except the two cats wanted breakfast. I went on the back deck with the cats to wait for the rest of the house. The sun was shining, it is warm.
The sound of roosters crowing down the dirt roads was music to my ears.
My daughter's hens were purring in their cage.
The cats took off into the fields to catch some mice.
I took this picture with my iPad.
I Love The Boonies!

That is an absolutely gorgeous photo you took! I would be in heaven there, as I love the boonies as well! Hope you enjoy yourself and the wonderful nature you are surrounded by!

@PainsOnSlate I'm lucky that even though I live in a city, I am mere minutes from hundreds of thousands of acres of pristine wilderness! So anytime I feel the urge (and that's often!), I hop in my truck and head out to the countryside. Not only is it great to connect with nature, but it's also a good way to de-stress at the end of a long day!

@moffittjc We have the Bruce Trail that runs through our area, I have often walked parts of it for the magnificent views and the peace and quiet.

I am back home again and I still have country around me but not as quiet and peaceful as it was at my daughter's home. Boonies make me happy!

I can relate to that @PainsOnSlate my early years were on Army bases then dad bought a house in the suburbs here in El Paso, not exactly the kind of place I prefer.

I grew up in an area similar and since married (almost 50 years) we have always lived in big and small cities. I love visiting my daughter and her peaceful piece of land.

@PainsOnSlate I like the idea of living on the edge of a ravine. I saw a house once where they took advantage of that with a deck overlooking the ravine, but under that deck was a room which meant you could enjoy the ravine even in deepest winter.

@pgiblett that's very cool. Our ravine is government land and can't be built on or over. Its nice to know no one will ever build anywhere in it.

When we bought this house in a small town we bought it because there is woods behind it and a huge ravine. It makes us think we are rural looking out into the back yard but the view from the front is small town..

That looks lovely, pains!
I know I miss the open space with miles of beautiful countryside before you even find the closest neighbor!
(sigh!)
I am fairly sure I would have taken the extra three hours and avoided all the construction! But that's just me!

so glad yer son was able to pick ya'p 'n drive ya there, hon. i despise weekend traffic, always avoided't like the plague if'n possible. seems there's always massive road construction durin' the warmer months, eh? 'n many folks don't follow the posted rules/warnin's...i always'd a secret desire to flatten the tires'f those who'd run 'long the shoulder so's they could speed by, lol.
what a beautiful place to be! not jest'n sight, but'n sounds :) great pic! reminds me'f my dad's place.

@PainsOnSlate the young'uns'n i hit a patch'n the interstate, many years 'go, whilst goin' to my dad's. they'd a horrible wreck 'n 't took 's nearly 5 hours to go 3 miles. traffic 'twas horrid 'n then the delay put's into nashville, tn 't rush hour...'n a friday eve, no less.
sadly we'd none'f those devices back then. they'd books though'n knew not to test my wearin' patience, lol.

@crazyhorseladycx I've done that so many times since we moved here - Toronto is one big city with way too many cars.... You reminded me of a story I need to write, It will be my next one. Painting like a crazy woman, hope to deliver tomorrow.

@PainsOnSlate Yesterday we had a porcupine in the yard and saw deer tracks. A pheasant strolled through and apparently it is a wild one.
But that mole in the garden in not welcome!!!

I love the peace and quiet here. The only thing that disturbs my sleep is the whip-poor-will. A tiny bird with a big mouth.. I wake up when the start to sing in the dark but the also put me back to sleep like a loud lullaby.
.
Learn how to identify Eastern Whip-poor-will, its life history, cool facts, sounds and calls, and watch videos. Made famous in folk songs, poems, and literature for their endless chanting on summer nights, Eastern Whip-poor-wills are easy to hear but hard

@PainsOnSlate Thanks for the link.It has a loud voice for such a small bird. But the singing sure has a rhythm .No wonder you went back to sleep.

@PainsOnSlate We miss good restaurants and things like that. Miss a little 'action' other than a tractor with a bale of hay.

I can't imagine hating it unless the car is in the shop... My daughter loves it and would never move back to the city or even a small town. I live in a small town with a big city nearby.

I wouldn't mind living there, it is a lovely quiet country neighborhood near enough to several big cities so the best of two worlds.
