Suddendeath poetry Challenge: Ode to Dads!

Centralia, Missouri
June 18, 2016 6:59am CST
Welcome to this weekend’s Suddendeath poetry challenge, Ode to Dads! Anyways, rules are as follows, write a poem in any style using the five words that I give you. Write it in one sitting or in under an hour (only to quash your inner editor, rules are loose there). Add it here, OR link in a comment so we can enjoy each other’s poems. The words can be in any plurality or tense. Today’s words are papa, dad, father, parent, pop. My entry is below: ------------------------------------------------------- Some had a father, and some had a dad, Some had a papa who was just a young lad. We all come from someone even if we don’t know who Even if our other parent themselves never knew. It’s a fact of life that one simply cannot escape, It takes donations from two for a person to make. That doesn’t make them parents, no for that you need more, That’s who that loves you and during growing cares for, The children they are tasked with both their own and others, No matter who was the pops, or the mothers!

White Stetson on the kitchen table meant Dad Papa the stuff of Italian TV movies Soda not pop; guitar twang and Hank Williams fathered loosely by you as you parented errant horses, carving my nature even as you trimmed their hooves.

very good - we are a product of both our parents and as you show, it is way beyond just their DNA that makes the bond

It's easy to be a father. That it don't take much is sad. There is a much harder job. And that is being a Dad. No matter if you call him pop or maybe even papa The thing that matters most is that he really loves ya. Making children is the easy part Being parents takes your heart.

@Jessicalynnt My dad was my father, but I wouldn't consider him my dad, not in the aspect that he did anything with us kids, or gave us a lot of praise, or made us feel special. No, he was my father. He did what he was supposed to for us and that was about the size of it.

My father, I never knew. No one to call Pop, Papa. My only Parent was my Mother, who often took the role of Father. Then one day, she met a man. He was the one and only, whom I could call Dad.

@Jessicalynnt thank you Jessa Lyn! Poetry scares me. To even get me to write something is like pulling teeth.

papa, dad, father, parent, pop. Not everyone is cut out to be a parent. It is more than just pop out a kid, that's apparent! I do wish more people give it a thought... Before they father a kid without any forethought! Not every father can be called "papa" or "dad". As parents, some of them are just simply too mad or too bad!

Okay, It's a little late and incomplete, but... Gram’s father’s name was Papa. I called my grandpa Pop. My parent was just Dad to me. Each man was the cream of the crop. Papa was a farm hand. Pop was a laborer too. My daddy was a journalist. They were the greatest men that I knew.
