~Hate Calling On Any Holiday~

I will call my father for Father's Day today. As some of you may know he was not the nicest to my siblings and I all growing up. He always told us he wanted children so he could have slaves he didn't have to purchase-trust me it wasn't a joke or a lie.
He still isn't a very nice person to be honest. I have forgiven him for the past and I pray for him all the time. I keep praying one day, just maybe he will find the Lord and change his ways. I know it has to be in God's time not mine.
Sometimes I feel like a fake or a liar when I call him on Holidays-not because I don't love him (I only do because he's my father) but just because I don't think he was a good father. The only thing he did right-he was a good provider for us-we had food, clothes and shelter. That's not everything in this life though-there's much more to life than money.
One person who is a GREAT father however is my husband so I am excited to wish him a Happy Father's Day today. To all of the good father's out there-Happy Father's Day and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Some dads are just not very good fathers. I'm not very close to mine anymore, but I can't say that he wasn't a good father or didn't love my sister and I. I will still wish him a happy Father's Day. My husband does love his kids, and does his best for the kids and I. Hopefully, he can have a better relationship with our kids than we have with our dads.

@dodo19 I have never been close to my father because he just hasn't been a good father to us our whole lives.
My husband is a much better father to our children as well than either of our father's were to us.

@LovingMyBabies It definitely does sound as though your husband is a better father. I hope he has a good Father's Day,

I commend you for even calling him Jennifer. But, I too would probably do the same if it were me. That is how I am.

@LovingMyBabies you have a big heart. Sometimes it is hard to speak kindly to someone that has caused you so much pain. You focus on what good they have in them, even when that good is hard to find.

@ElusiveButterfly Yes I try to see the good in everyone-which has gotten me in a lot of trouble at different times in my life but that's just who I am.

@ElusiveButterfly Yeah, no matter what he has done he is still my father and I always try to be respectful and a peace keeper in life.

I am sorry your own Father was not a better Father to you and your siblings. That is great you found a guy who is a good Dad to both of your kids.

@LovingMyBabies My parents were brutal and lied. My father was just nasty and believed men were superior to women.

@MsTickle Well my mother was a pretty good mother, but my father didn't really need to have children.

You call to honour him. Always the right thing to do. I'm glad you found someone you know is a good father to spend your life with.

Material things are useless without love. Perhaps he too never received love when he was a child. I am glad you have found someone who is making up for that. I wish my parents were still around so I could wish them blessings but they are deeply in my thoughts today!

@garymarsh6 You are right, he wasn't loved either and wasn't shown any affection and it has definitely stuck with him into adulthood. But that's no excuse-he should know right from wrong once he became an adult himself.

There is hope he will find the Lord. My dad was very similiar to yours. At age 69 he found Jesus and everything changed. He was a new creation. He cried and apologized for all that he did to us and we accepted the apology. He lived 10 more years and now he is with Jesus. I wish I could call and wish him Happy Fathers Day.

@Riccomama I really hope this happens with my father as well. He is just so strong willed and hard headed, I don't know if he will ever accept Jesus into his heart. I hope I'm wrong though and I hope he does find the Lord one day.
