How Not To Parent

Yesterday, while I was waiting for my son to pick me up from work, I was standing outside talking to one of the guests. He had come outside to sit by the pool and have a few beers after work (does construction) but left the pool area because there were a lot of kids. He didn't feel it was appropriate drinking around them. We stood talking and watching the pool. The parents told the kids it was time to get out of the pool. The kids smarted off, said rude thing and refused to mind-these were not small kids so they knew better. How did the parents handle it? They cussed at the kids, called them names and flipped off their kids. The guy I was talking to said he didn't feel bad about drinking around the kids after seeing that if they had that little respect. Can't say I blame him at all. Kids are brats but for parents to act that way is inexcusable and they will live to regret it one day.

Sad. No role models for the kids or the adults. Both sound like they'll jump out of the pool and vegetate in front of reality TV with frozen pizza.

They were there for a dance competition. I'm surprised with the attitude of both the parents and the kids they didn't get kicked out. LOL

No wonder the kids are so disrespectful. They are modeling the parents' behavior.

I feel that it falls on the parents to discipline their children. If they fall short on this task, it really shows in the behavior of their kids. I wish that more parents took the time to teach their children proper manners, respect and how to treat others'. The world in general would be a better, safer place to live.

You and me both! I would have been under the table if I ever spoke rudely to my mother.

Kids act how you allow them to act. They learn this behavior from the people around them. Its sad that a parent would speak to a child that way.

Yep. Pretty bad when neither parent or child is an adult.

That was very nice and thoughtful of the guy. But after that incident, I wouldn't feel bad also. That's rude of the parents to do that. They could have handled the situation better even though they were upset.

And I bet the parents blame the kids at the playground for their children's bad language.
