The start of the school year means electing class officers. Teachers believe in instilling the gift of taking responsibility to their students early in life. Or so they say.
During my elementary school days, I was elected the class president (even though I was absent during votation making it null and void), class assistant secretary (I lost to a single vote- dang! lol), class treasurer (though I’m never good at math), and class sergeant-at-arms (how I felt so invincible writing the names of the noisy students on the board!).
The most coveted position for me though is the class muse. Being one means being the most beautiful; the most adored in a class full of recalcitrant students. Boys always fancy her and the other girls never bully her. It’s like being in a pedestal so high nobody can reach. I never reached that pedestal. Mom must have been lying to me all those years she said I am pretty. Sad story, yeah.
Then last night during the regular Facetime session with my family, my daughter of 8 who’s a fourth grader proudly announced that she’s elected as the class muse! I was speechless for a while as the words sank in slowly.
She.is.the.class.muse.
Sigh. Truly, when you can’t achieve something, your kids will realize it for you. lol
How about you? Were you elected as a class officer?

Since elementary and high school, my name is always posted on the wall as one of the class officers but not as muse. But , I think i'm still lucky to be one of the beauties in our place.... ha ha ha ha...
Anyway, it's true that there are things that we aimed but was not able to achieved then our children luckily have it or did it. At least, our children had the realization of our dreams.

Congratulations on your daughter's rise to class muse! It's so nice for our children to achieve what we couldn't. That status is unheard of here. The closest thing to it would be prom queen in high school. I was one vote away. Sniff. Sniff. On the plus side, I served in various offices.

I was never been elected as a class president for I have been a very shy person to speak up for the entire class. Being a secretary is a No-No for my penmanship is not the readable. I remember, I started a discussion about penmanship before here in Mylot. I was never elected as class treasurer too or even a Sergeant At Arms. I was once elected as the muse of the class maybe because of my foreign look. Some of my classmates mistaken me most of the times as a foreigner.

@sol_cee I do not think so that I am pretty. I think that they were just overwhelmed by my look which is not typical for a Filipina..

Yup, when I was in grade 6, I was elected as the class president even if I had a lot of classmates who were better than me. So I had to deliver speeches during programs, awww!
Other times, I was the class secretary even in high school. I was the one tasked to write on the board most of the time.

She beat you! meaning she's prettier than her mom. lol. Well, I was elected Vice president when I was in grade 5 and Treasurer in grade 6. Sgt. at arms in first year and the most talkative when I was in 4th year. Haha. and 'She Bangs' when I worked in my first callcenter experienced. hahaha.

I would have voted for you as the class muse or clown. However in the schools I attended there were no positions. In one class, I was the teacher's pet and so I got to clean the blackboards and run errands. The teacher was so pretty and I loved the chores as I got to get out of the class for the errands. I have always loved the outdoors and so that is why I loved my job as a salesman as I was not cooped in an office all day.

Yes, but not the muse, cause I am not pretty! So your daughter got what you longed for? To be the class muse?
