My 19-year old son started losing hair in his crown area about 2 years ago. He always has thick, thick hair. Had to have it thinned when he got haircuts. My husband is bald and I have thick hair. I have heard balding comes from the mother's side. My dad was bald. So we have been proactive in this. He saw a dermatologist in January who said it was male pattern baldness. He told him to use Rogaine twice a day, and take finesteride 1 mg daily. He is also receding in the front. It breaks my heart because he is so young. I believe the treatments are halting the hair loss, but not sure he has filled in areas yet. Anyone have experiences or advice to share. It would be appreciated.

I too started loosing my hair when I was a fresher at my college later doctor asked me to get some tests done and then I came to know I had hypothyroidism which was making my hairs so thin.

Keeping my Thyroxine stimulating hormone within levels helps somewhat but I now don't have those thick hairs that I used to have earlier.

Several of my friends started losing significant amounts of hair at that time. I might look into some herbal topical remedies. I hear some of them have more success than Rogaine. Fortunately I've had limited hair loss. Baldness doesn't run in my family.

They say:
If you bald in the front you're a thinker.
If you bald in the back you're a lover.
If your head is completely bald then you think you're a lover.
I've heard balding can be caused by diet.
In fact, from the bit of research I've done on wheat, it seems wheat can be a culprit in not only many health issues, but baldness, as well.
He could always try changing his diet and going wheat free.
