A car salesman didn't know what to say

Yesterday we took our Chevy in for an oil change and tire rotation. These are things my husband used to do. Chevy gave us 4 free within the first two years, unfortunately, we don't put many miles on our SUV so our oil life was very high at the time the 4th free one came available. Anyway, back to the car salesman...
I can talk about them since my BIL owned a Jeep dealership and although he owned the business he was still a car salesman. While waiting for our vehicle to be worked on I got tired of watching Fox news so I suggested to my husband we go to the showroom and check the new cars.
Naturally, the showroom only had one model - some very expensive Corvettes! The first one that caught my eye cost $87,000. The next was only $72,000. The salesman spotted us and came over (drooling!).
By that point I was looking at the one marked $107,000. Yes, One hundred seven thousand dollars! He proudly stated, "It goes 200 mph." To which my husband said, "So, where do you drive it?" The salesman looked stumped. So I chimed up with, "We have John Deere tractors on our road that go faster than that." Not sure he thought that was funny either!
Once in a blue moon, or a strawberry moon, we see a vet out here in the boonies....they are usually lost!

By a vet I take it you mean a corvette rather than an ex military person?

We have had our car for 6 months, haven't gone in for an oil change yet too. My dad gets an oil change for his car once a year because he doesn't drive often also
The salesman was speechless!!

Oil sitting in a car for a year is not a good thing.....you might suggest that he reconsider that. Yes, a speechless salesman, can you believe it.

@AbbyGreenhill Yeah its not good but they won't change it. They provide warranty for 2 years but they won't change it til it reaches like 7,000 miles.

Having owned a Corvette, I have to say-I don't get what the thrill is. The truck we own gets us where we need to get just fine.
Poor sales guy-must have been adding up his commission when he saw you!

I always loved looking at them, but my dream car if I was rich was a Ferrari. Yes, he was already spending his commission - we burst his bubble.

that is a good question though, where would one drive that fast, certainly not anywhere safely or not at risk of a ticket!

The speed limit on the interstates is 70, therefore, they drive 85 to 90 which is bad enough, can't even imagine wanting to drive 200.

He had zero sense of humor - oh well, that's his problem, we had a good laugh on the way home!

Putting fewer miles on your vehicle helps to keep the value of it and you have lower maintenance bills. My new car I paid for the lifetime of oil changes. It shows my next oil change is due in Nov, the mileage shows that I will need it next month.
I loved the John-Deere joke. We see a few vets around here, but not many. They are ok for driving here in the summer, but not the winter months.

@AbbyGreenhill, it was all bulked in to one price, with the oil changes I also got Gap insurance and up to a $1000 deductible along with an extended warranty to 125k miles and something else that I can't remember. It was $2500 and it was financed into my loan.

We don't put fewer miles on the car on purpose or to save on the value. We always trade in either 2 or 3 years and our trade ins are always very high. What did you pay for lifetime oil change if I may ask? My husband will probably go back to doing it himself unless we get a decent coupon, which they do send out once in a while. I was always in love with the vets...a boss long ago bought a red one and he let me drive it - what a thrill!

Ha ha, I often wonder how those real expensive cars ever get sold. That $107,000 price could buy a rather nice house!

Maybe 1/2 a nice house. People buy them not sure if they get to 200 mph.

Any of those Corvettes sound enticing. Was there a red one? Red cars go faster. :)

To be a car salesman you either have to be a desperately good car enthusiast or a really good salesman. He seems to be neither
