Have you ever read a discussion without leaving a response/comment?

I have! While I try to at least "like" the discussion I've opened.. I've found I don't always have more to add to some of the posts.. So it makes me wonder if this happens to you as well? Also, do you feel obligated to make a response/comment to a discussion you have opened?

Yes all the time! Sometimes I can't relate or don't know what to write so I don't write anything.

I don't always comment. Sometimes it seems I will only repeat what someone else said.

@Drosophila Sometimes I comment before reading anything just so I won't be discouraged by seeing everyone else already said it.

Just occasionally I move on without responding. I either have nothing to say, or what I would have said would perhaps not be well received. I prefer to move on rather than upset anybody. This is particularly true of religious posts.

I have skipped some of those before, particularly political posts. Unless I know the person am talking about is ok with what I have to say and won't get too pissy about it :D

@jaboUK Being non-religious, I skip religious posts—not out of hostility, but I really don't have anything to add. The poster wouldn't be interested in anything I have to say.

i've come 'cross some's ya speak'f myself. e'ery now'n then i don't e'en "like" 'em, though some think they're obligated to 's a boost to someones effort (which, i've a hard time doin' with those 1 liners'n particular...). 's fer feelin' obligated to respond to a response'n my own discussion? depends'n if'n there's a need fer more i reckon? i'm purty fond'f runnin' dialogues myself.

I do try to add something to each discussion that I read, but I agree that it is not always viable. It is rare for me not to comment, but I will not add a comment of no value.

Indeed, sometimes I also see that most of people had commented on what I want to say. so adding another comment of the same nature seems unnecessary.

Like you when I open some of the discussions, I find that I cannot relate to those discussions or I have nothing to contribute to those discussions. I prefer to 'like' and leave the discussion (without responding) rather than writing something meaningless.

I am a highly opinionated, conceited, dominating beech. I don't feel obligated to respond, I feel the person who has made me open that post is obligated to read my opinion. That said...I have had moments... a. When the power is going to bid goodbye b. When somebody (read my little hero and my little princess) arrive c. When I am too shocked for words with the post...sometimes even I run short of them.

well it's to show my appreciation. in general I don't open posts if the title or the first bit is dull. so when I open a post, it means on some level it was interesting to me. that's what I am "liking to"...

@zap_81 I generally "like" a post, if there's something worth liking.. if not.. I just move on.. you can't judge a book by it's cover, but.. a nice cover will increase the chance of you picking it up.. give merit where merit is due is my motto

@Drosophila Agreed and appreciated but then you cant judge a book from its cover unless the "like" is restricted to the caption and not the body of the post.

I wont response if I have nothing to contribute to the discussion because I cant relate or I am ignorant about the topic and I will just ruin it. I will also wont response if I know I will end up being offensive with my opinion.

I can almost always find something to say when opening discussions, but once in a while, I don't. Just today this happened as I read about the decision Britain came to recently. While I've heard about it before, I've not kept up on the news and would have to do some research to say anything worthwhile. Also, if a person only writes about sports or tv shows, I won't have much to say, but normally most people have other posts I can read and say something on, so I continue to look for a bit.

It's been noted by ppl that I'm not the most talkative person in the world;), so no, I don't always comment, haha. Like, I sometimes don't feel that I have anything intelligent to add, so if I like it, I'll just like it...if that makes sense?

@HebrewGreekStudies It does, though I find this type of communication can be very strenuous at times, as I often try to see the person's logic and follow their train of thoughts, after a while, it is rather draining.

@Drosophila well, most of it to be fair is listening-and then responding. Which in a way is how I feel about making comments...like, trying to say the right thing at the right time, or compliment someone's thought? Like, some ppl (or at times, maybe everyone) needs affirmation-a reality is, that many ppl don't have that...if that makes sense?
