My only niece who lives with my parents has a half day of school. According to her, they have parents teachers meeting this afternoon, so its time for me to teach her some chores and washing her uniforms and her underwears. I asked her to clean her room because I found it very dirty and not in order. I give her an hour to do it but I'm always monitoring her work if she did it right. After 40 minutes, she's done and I found her room very clean and in order now,, I told her that she'll be the one to clean it every other day from school. After that, I asked her to bring her uniform and undies in the washing room, segrating the colors and its dirt. I teach her to wash her stuffs the proper way especially her underwares. When she's done, I let her put it in the clothesline properly. I told her, that she"s going to practice this things because she can't escape doing chores because she's a girl and all of us must work to maintain cleanliness. Friends, do you teach your kids doing some chores?

How old is your niece? My mother has taught me to clean my room and wash my clothes when I was about 8 years old.

@Chungshop No, that is not child labor friend. I just want to teach her how to do the chores, how to wash her clothes and others. We, girls should do this in the house and I want her to know this things while she is young, still she can play with her friends but I want her to expose this kind of work.

My youngest niece now lives with my parents and my mom taught her how to wash her clothes recently. She took my room as hers. It was chaotic at first so i told her what to do with her sheets and closet every weekend.

It is good to teach the kids to do chores. I do that too because I want them to be responsible persons as they grow old.

Yes. we have to teach them while they are still young. If they are already at age and doesn't know on how to do the chores even how rich they are, still their house is untidy because they don't know on how to teach their house helpers if they have.

Yes, boys must learn all the chores also. Like my children, because they are all boys, I teach them on how to do the chores because I think, if I won't who will do if I get sick.

@ida123 Teaching kids responsibility is a good thing. It works especially well if it's fun for them. They will see themselves as "bigger" and have a good time in the process.

What a lucky niece to have someone to teach her these things. Every child should learn these basic tasks.

Indeed, I think if I won't teach her, she might be like her elder sisters whom until now, didn't know the chores and even simple tasks.

@ida123 It would be lovely to think she would never need to do these things but many people are not so lucky. Better that she knows how just in case.

Good on you. Kids have it too easy these days and grow up believing they can have what they want and don't need to work. These kids will be in for a rude shock later on because they don't know how to do anything.

@MsTickle their grandparents have two house helpers but it is not a guarantee that they have a good income all the time butt when time of crisis, my other nieces might find difficulties of adjusting where they don't know any task at home

@ida123 It's good you are there to teach her. She needs that. My mother didn't teach me to do house chores but she is a good role model that is why I had also learned how to do all those things. I can cook, I can wash clothes, wash the dishes, but cleaning the house is not my forte.

Both boys and girls should help with chores. i used to get my boys to help as much as possible....not that they were very good at it . We used to do this as a way of life but now children don't do so much. Its for their own good so that they able to live on their own.

Yes, I jokingly call it "child labor," but my neighbor kid friend loves doing stuff with me. He has "helped" me stain the table and chairs on my balcony, and is learning a new skill while bonding with his grown-up buddy.

I think, all children loves to do with the old ones and imitate us of what we are doing. So if parents don't do anything at the house, the children won't also do some tasks in the house.

Good for you! It's time she learned. I taught my kids how to clean and do chores when they were old enough to do them correctly. I taught them how to do laundry just before they left for college. They are grown, and I'm happy to see their homes are immaculate.
