Blackberries are very easy to grow.
I grew my bush from some fruits that I picked up from the wild berries in the wood.
Here is the first crop of the year, a small cup of fresh blackberries.
There are many more that should be ready to pick up tomorrow and after tomorrow.
I have not yet decided if to make a blackberry cobbler, or to serve them with a vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
Which is your favorite recipe for blackberries?

I love to put blackberries into my smoothies. I never knew they were easy to grow! They can get pricey at the market.

@LadyDuck what does it mean by prune? I should ask my dad to grow some! A little cartoon if organic can cost $4.99

@infatuatedbby It means to trim the long branches. They are expensive here too.

Still a bit early for blackberries here, another month or so and then we will be picking them. . . We have gooseberries, goji berries, black currents, red currants, loganberries, honeyberries in the garden at the moment. . . Cranberries will be soon!

@toniganzon That is what I have found searching the Internet, I have even seen YouTube videos of people picking up the berries in the Philippines.

I think a blackberry pie or crumble is my favorite but I do love them in just about any recipe.

@BelleStarr With double cream is a good idea, I do not eat sugar.

I used to pick wild blackberries and make lots of blackberry jam for the family. I did not use them in any sophisticated way. Now, wild berries have disappeared as all the country is being used with fruit and vineyards.

Gosh blackberries are never ready until the end of August in the UK. We used to go pick wild blackberries every summer. My mother used to make jam, crumble etc etc. I still love blackberries. I think I would prefer the cobbler!

They look absolutely perfect! I always prefer the flavour of hedgerow blackberries (also, of course, you don't have to cut them back - just get wounded wnen you pick them) and, for the garden, I would buy the thornless variety (less invasive and much easier to prune - and the fruit is nearly as good).
My favourite recipes for blackberries would be blackberry and apple pie (the addition of apples improves and enhances the flavour) and blackberry and apple jelly (the apples add pectin, in this case, and straining the pulp through a jelly bag is well worth while because the pips are a nuisance and get stuck in one's teeth).

I had planted a thornless variety but it did not survive, while this wild plants are terribly invasive, I prune them all the time. I will follow your idea to try a blackberry and apple pie, it is tempting. I tried cranberry and apple and it works well.
