I've just had a lovely ham n egg salad .... with jersey royal new potatoes ..., some of you may not know what i'm talking about, but these ..., are a really nice potato , but they have a very short season .. in june.. so I look forward to them every year. ... the other item that I wait patiently for, to come into season, is .. victoria plums ..., in september..., they too have a relatively short season... and once they've gone... they've gone... lol.
Do you have a favourite food item that is only available at a certain time of year ...
It's unusual in this day and age, when you can get most food items all year round, but...
I think it adds to their specialness and enjoyment, that you can only get them once a year....

Yes, I love sugar snap peas. Those are not the easiest to find outside of June either. Not always a specific produce but there's always an abundance of good deals during summer here. It makes things harder once winter comes as the prices become less reasonable and we tend to eat things that are higher calories.

I sure do agree with you. We start getting watermelon in the stores about late May or early June. But, it isn't really good until July or even August. Cantelope is the same. They pick a lot of it way too early and then it isn't good. I try to wait until later in the season. I live in Idaho so potatoes are a favorite of mine. These 'new' ones look like red potatoes for size.

We have our local strawberries and blueberries and they are so much better than the ones that are shipped in. Clementines are very seasonal but for a couple of months at least.

That looks delicious!
We have new potatoes in winter, here.
And I totally agree about the fun of waiting and having seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Coincidentally , i was thinking of a post along these lines.

I like fresh fruit in summer. The prices on it tend to come down a little when they're in season.
