What would you do if you found yourself alone?

June 24, 2016 1:38pm CST
Let's say you wake up one morning but it's unusually quiet. You go out of your bed and realise there's nobody home. Furthermore, there's no more traffic, the cities are empty, as if everyone has disappeared suddenly. So what would you first think/do in this situation?

I'd take a stroll and try to figure out what was going on. I'd also log in and check the news. If it said, "Everyone except you is gone, or was an illusion anyway," I'd determine that I was either dreaming or Rene Descartes.

I could see myself taking a long drive to see the world, well there should be enough petrol/gas to keep me going for quite some time.

Well, first I'd panic. Then I'd hunt for my husband and children. Panic some more. Remember to pray. Try to call my mom. Check the interwebz. And eventually, I'd start stockpiling food and water from whatever sources I could find. What would YOU do, @toprear?

I'd have to develop a mental barrier, since the reality would be so shocking. I'd need a really fake sense of security (if there isn't one, I will eventually go mad, if there is one, I'm mad already, so it's a win-win situation :). Anyway, what a perfect opportunity to visit area 51, that Vatican City library, all along driving a stolen luxury sports car (kind of a wrong word, since there's nobody to steal from). The worst part - nobody operates the power plants. There are no surgeons too, so anything serious happens to me - rest in peace. I would have to go back to stone age. There would be no entertainment, so everything would depend on me. I'd try finding anything new to do, constantly. Like breaking into an airfield to see how I can control a plane on the tarmac :). Well that's a dull and miserable life. Many people mentioned travelling, which is a great idea. Of course, a few places would be really hard to get to, but you can always come back to where you were.

I would first pinch myself to ascertain that I'm not dreaming. I would try to contact and search frantically for my loved ones. Then I would probably freak out if I can't find anyone.

Spooks. No hubby or the fur kids even? I'd burst into a cry fest.

An interesting discussion topic indeed. I'd be worried and sad - and afraid for the fates of my partner and cat. Once I'd found out that I was totally alone though, and come to terms with it, I'd start gathering supplies and getting them under protection. I'd pick a big house that had solar panels (common here) and stockpile food and supplies. I'd borrow a big truck and haul in dirt, tools, seeds, water, whatever I'd need. I'd probably watch movies for companionship, write, and also try to learn as much as I could about what had happened. I'd also continue looking for survivors.

I would go out and search for my friends or find out why that happened.

Panic will be the first reaction but I will try to find out what's going on really. Then I would explore the empty environment as if I'm an alien go wherever I want and have a big smile on my face.

I'll think I woke up in the middle of a horror/scifi film and go back to sleep waiting for things to become normal.......

That would be pretty sad. I would have to go around and see if there are more people somewhere.
