I have been a fan of Valentino Rossi since the GP of Spain (Jerez) in 1997. He was just 'playing' with the other riders. When I saw that race I was instantly a major fan.
When Nicky Hayden became Valentino's teammate I thought that he would turn into a very competitive rider. But with Nicky Hayden I got the feeling that he's not always going for the win, not pushing himself to the limit. Where as Valentino Rossi always gives the full 100% in every race.
How many times do you hear Nicky Hayden say in a press conference after the race that he brought the bike home safe? Last year he didn't win the championship, Valentino Rossi lost it due to all the crashes, technical problems, not to mention his broken wrist after the crash in Assen. Is Nicky Hayden a champion? On paper he is... But we all know that Valentino Rossi is the real champ!

I like Nicky hayden and Capirossi. Rossi is a very good rider but has not got a character.

Wot! Rossi no character?
If you mean by 'character': guts, heart, will to win, then Rossi has shown this time-and-again. He's ridden with injuries that would keep most people off their bikes. He's come from the tail of the field through to the front in seemingly impossible circumstances.
If you mean by 'character': personality, charm, appeal to the fans, then Rossi has shown he's the darling of the fans and the press entourage. He is a promoter's dream. Look how he hypes up the racing fans with by playing to the crowd.
How can a man have no character and win seven world championships?

Definitely Rossi.
Hayden is a one-season-wonder. Now that Ducati and Yamaha (and even Suzuki) are competitive with the Hondas he is struggling.
