Our local theater is showing ET so it's a rare chance to see it on the big screen once again. I actually saw it on opening day. My husband and I were killing time before an appointment an so we decided to see a movie. We were amazed at how good the movie was and later we grabbed the kids and took them to see it that evening. So I actually saw it twice on opening day.
It's been years since I've seen it, we had a video of it and so, like many of you have practically memorized it. My meet up group planned it for this afternoon and after the movie, we'll go to dinner somewhere and have a round table discussion. I may stop and pick up a small pack of Reese's Pieces for everyone.
It's about time for a sequel, don't you think?

I just heard about The Wizard of Oz being at The Tampa Theater, a historical theater in our area in September. They were talking about going as a group last night at game night. That is one I have never seen on the big screen, I would consider going to see it and even taking my mom. She never goes to movies because of her hearing, but she knows the movie inside and out and I bet she would love to see it on the big screen.

@Jeanniemaries I love the Wizard of Oz and I only have seen it on my TV. I have the DVD.

@LadyDuck I read the book too, several times along with the other OZ books. It's a favorite of mine too.

l don't think they should ever do a sequel. l'd rather they focus on new original things.
Also sadly l can't watch that anymore because l read about how they did the voice for E T and that's all l'm thinking about when l watch it.
Sideknote don't look it up if you don't know

@Jeanniemaries Oh l love the new star wars. But that's a space opera and l think it lends itself more to continuations. Some stories just stand on their own better and we have too many sequels anyway.
Nothng too weird about the voice but it's one of those things you can't unsee once you read about it

@Cherganski I'm officially intrigued about the voice thing. I want the sequel but saying that, I know in my heart the sequels are never as good!

Oh I will look it up...but not until tomorrow! Haha! I had no idea there was anything weird going on like that. I understand the point about a sequel but I did enjoy the new Star Wars movie, more than I did the original (I was totally lost!)

@Jeanniemaries It is probably better suited to a woman.

For me, it didn't lose it's magic. I still got goose bumps on that last lift off into the air with all the children on their bikes and I laughed at loud quite a few times. I didn't expect that as I've seen it often. It was more than worth the price of admission.

@Asylum oh perhaps but not every movie is for everyone.

I remember I was reluctant to choose a Sci-fi that day when we saw it, but clearly nothing else appealed. It was not my kind of movie at all and I knew nothing about it.

@Jeanniemaries We've never been ones to go out to the movies.

@Juliaacv It's one of my favorite things to do. I like seeing the latest movie when it's first out rather than wait for it to come out on video or TV but I don't rush to see just any movie. Only my favorite kinds. Unfortunately I have odd favorites so the are usually on a limited release and difficult to find.

@lilnana1111 I didn't cry in this movie, I rarely do, but remember the movie Beaches? I cried buckets in the theater, embarrassingly loud sniffs and crying. I was with my two sisters and niece and fortunately my sisters cried too.

Sure could be the reason for the rerun of the movie. I sure will keep my fingers crossed.

@Jeanniemaries unlikely a sequel would do justice to the original which is perfect as it is

It would be interesting to have a sequel. I think I have only seen it all the way through once and that was at home not in the theatre.

It was totally mind blowing back in the day. In 1982 our kids were just at the right age. 13, 10 & 9. ( The last one wasn't even thought of for three more years.) I was actually impatient during the movie to go get the kids!

ET is one of those timeless movies. I haven't seen it since my kids were small but I'm sure the grandchildren would be happy with it

@Jeanniemaries Have fun today. I would rather read a book first, then see the movie.

I saw Gone With the Wind back in the 70's after reading the book several times over the years. It was before it was ever shown on TV, so it was my first time seeing it. I loved the experience so I hope I enjoy the experience today.
