Hi all You may remember that that the Queen of England celebrated her 90th birthday way back on the 21st April. My friend @Inlemay (one of my favourite people in the world...love you Lany) had asked if I could send her some commemorative stamps and postcards, which you may have seen. I also noticed that the Royal Mail were also offering some other bits and bobs, including the 4 generation family portrait that was used to create some of the stamps as a first day cover, complete with a Windsor postmark dated 21st April 2016. I'm not a stamp collector, but I figured (and hope) that this would be of interest to @Inlemay ? So I ordered it for her and was told that delivery would be in approx 4 working days. Well, it's finally arrived...after 4 weeks!! Lany... a small thing I know, but hope it cheers you at least a little. Later everyone

Well, I'm sure everyone is very relieved that the goods have arrived at least. What a lovely thing to do for Lany.

I think he is so kind to do something like this for me. When I get to the UK - John and I are going to have a weeks Touring - he just doesn't know it yet, I will make a tourist out of him in his own country.

There was a great deal of promotion for the 90th Birthday issues, but none of those stamps appear to be in general circulation. It seems strange that they often issue commemorative stamps but never sell them beyond the collector issues.

@Inlemay That is the whole purpose of a stamp, so issuing collector sets alone is defeating the whole object.

@Asylum collectors sets are more commemorative rather than stamps with value - Franked stamps have the most value, but I collect Covers as well - I think they tell the whole story

I agree - they should sell them to the daily buyers as well - that way they would travel the world and be seen by all.

I am cheered - I am crying, I am so overwhelmed today and the empty nest is doing me no good. Its beautiful John and thank you for cheering me up. May you always be on the receiving end of the kindness you show to others. xx

Hi John. My Mom and I used to collect first day covers when I was at university (a long time ago). South Africa was split into a lot of "homelands" in those days so there were new ones coming out with alarming regularity and we used to rush to the post office to buy each new issue. What a waste of money that turned out to be. Buying covers on which the subject interested us would have been a much better idea than buying the ALL. I really like this one.

@ison_1 Nice to see you too. I've been so busy moving my blog that I haven't had much time for myLot. I'll try to find some time to read some more of your posts, but right now I've got an important appointment and I shouldn't even be online.

At least you got it in the end. Our postal service does leave a lot to be desired - when I was wanting to send some of these stamps I had to go the general post office and they had to hunt them out.

@ison_1 We very rarely get anything before 1pm, sometimes as late as 3pm.

That is a fine first day cover. Doubtful it will ever attain great collectible value but it is a nice keepsake.
