Smoothies are a great invention

Since I have been exercising I have also been trying to eat healthier. My husband doesn't eat fruits or vegetables willingly. I have started to make smoothies for breakfast.
This morning I crushed up some ice, added a banana, fresh strawberries, no fat yogurt and little honey and some baby spinach. I blended this up and put it in two glasses for hubs and I.
He will drink this all up and I enjoy it too, you would never know that the spinach was in it.

What a coincidence, I discovered just few days ago that I can add spinach to my smoothies and it does not really add any peculiar taste, so I now have made it a habit to add spinach to my smoothies. This morning, my smoothie include avacado, banana, cucumber, and lots of spinach. IT tastes so good!

aint they great? slap an avocado'n the mix 'n such'll be more akin to a creamy smoothie, one that somehow leaves ya full fer longer. plus ya get the good fat 'n all the other benefits'f such. i put spinach'n my concoctions most oft. yer correct, ya don't taste the spinach :) i made a kiwi-spinach one once...tasted great, but the color was less'n desirable

@BelleStarr i profess to no bein' fond'f those avocados. they're a nutritional requirement fer me though, so i've found ways to make their horrid taste more palatable :) they've healthy fats my body can actually absorb'n utilize, supposedly help with inflammation 'n then there's the other nutrients that're needed.

I think it helps us get enough fruit and veggies every day which we seldom did before.

I agree, smoothies can make us "cheat" husbands or kids to eat veggies they do not like though it is very nutritious. Yes, thanks to smoothies, they consume it all!

I enjoy smoothies as well. I don't make them nearly enough. Your post has influenced me to break out the blender and make them more often.

@BelleStarr They are also great for the kiddos that do not like fruits and veggies. My kids love fruits and veggies but it is nice to give them a treat with a nutritious smoothie.

Usually a shake has ice cream in it, this has yogurt and not the frozen kind.

I think smoothies were invented for people who don't want to chew! You know what I mean? Some people are on the go, don't have time to slow down, don't want to choke eating food too fast, or don't have the appetite. Drinking something to get your vitamins is easier! Smoothies are great! Watched a news show this morning and there was this Olympian in training being interviewed. Her morning “cup of coffee” is a smoothie! Sharing a link from my foodie blog.

lol that may very well be but they are a good way to fool your body into eating veggies you mnot like the taste of on their own!!

@BelleStarr - True! Montel Williams is a TV personality well know for his juicing diet. No matter the juice recipe, he includes spinach. Me personally? I would include both spinach and carrots.

Smoothies are good because they condense more foods enabling more vitamins and minerals to be absorbed into the body (plus they taste great).

I am a big fan of smoothies too, they are a great use for soft fruits that are starting to look a bit mushy, just blend them all up and people who would turn up their noses otherwise just yum them up!
If I have a glut of fruits like strawberries for example I just pop them all in the blender then pour the puree into ice-cube bags and freeze, then I use the fruit cubes for easy smoothies throughout the year.

That is a very good idea about making the strawberry ice cubes. I just freeze the fruit.

@BelleStarr I guess that works too, although I find that things tend to stick together, especially if you have a frost-ree freezer.

@BelleStarr My friend must put lots more greens in hers. It ends up a dreadful green colour. You need to shut your eyes to drink/eat it although it tastes okay.

It is very simple and even more so now that I use the blender instead of the immersion mixer.

I never tried the spinach thing.
The smoothies I used to make so kids would have the fruits, thankfully husband likes fruits and vegetables.

We all enjoy fruits and veggies here-but, a smoothie is a great thing. We like to start the days with fruit 'pulverized' into a smoothie and then, off we go!

I never added spinach (or any veggies for that matter) to my smoothies. Usually I stick with fruit but I just might have to try spinach if you say you don't taste it
