Tan lines first time at the beach

So I do spend a lot of time outside however I don't really go to the beach or lay in the sun for a sun tan, nor do I usually take my shirt off when doing yard work during the summer.
The other day I went to the beach with my girlfriend, first time this summer. It was a great day for the beach but she got a chuckle when we got there and I took off my shoes and shirt. (I don't have sandals) I later got a chuckle after seeing a picture of myself.
Let me describe it for you.
Where my t-shirts stop at the neck up was tan, from the end of the t-shirt sleeve down my arms were tan. From my knees to my ankles were tan.
My chest, stomach, shoulders, small portion of upper arms and ankles were as white as could be.
Are you one for tanning? Do you usually have a good tan before you go to the beach for the first time? Or are you like me and don't even think about it until your out there and someone points out your tan lines?

Haha, yes i could see wanting to have tanned if you go out in a summer dress. Guess at a beach most people don't care, it's different when you are going out somewhere though

@rbailey83 Yes it is annoying to leave clothes hanging in the closet because they are going to look funny with my mess of tan lines.

Dual color is very irritating either dont use tshrt or use sunscreen or use ful sleeve tshrt to save from sunburn.

Aw, don't let age turn you away from it. A green thumb is one thing i do not have lol, the only gardening I do is when my dad "recruits" me to come over and help him

Do you burn easily? I don't often get a sun burn when in t-shirt and shorts just because my legs and arms stay pretty tan all the time, but when the t-shirt comes off my shoulders tend to burn easily
