Steve Adams reports the news the Chicago Cubs have promoted 40 year old right handed relief pitcher Joel Peralta from their AAA minor league team the Iowa Cubs on Monday. Peralta was designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners on June 2, 2016 before he was released by the team on June 4, 2016. The Cubs signed Peralta to a minor league contract on June 9, 2016. Peralta had pitched for the current Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon in the 2012 Major League Baseball season which may have been a factor in the Cubs signing him to a minor league contract after he was released by the Mariners earlier this month. To make room for Peralta on the Cubs 25 man roster, the Cubs sent left handed relief pitcher Gerardo Concepcion, 24, to the Iowa Cubs on Monday. Concepcion started the 2016 baseball season with the Tennessee Smokies which is the AA minor league team of the Chicago Cubs before he pitched for the Iowa Cubs which is the AAA minor league team of the Chicago Cubs. Concepcion was called up to pitch for the Chicago Cubs on June 21, 2016 before he was demoted back to the Iowa Cubs on Monday. The addition of Peralta will be a welcome addition to the Cubs relief pitching team who are seeking to make another playoff run in the 2016 baseball season.

I didn't know Peralta was still around. I don't think he has anything left.

I guess Joe Maddon thinks he has something left since he managed him in Tampa Bay some years ago.
