Barbecue Chicken "Secret" Recipe

I know a lot of people who live in Missouri use their own "secret" recipe for barbecuing.
Yep! Even me!
Would you care to know my "secret" recipe? Yes, I'll tell you exactly what goes into my "secret" recipe! (Shhh! Don't tell anyone!) *DE looks around furtively.*
I mix one bottle of barbecue sauce with half a bottle of Buttermilk Ranch Dressing, add a quarter cup of finely chopped onions and a tablespoon of ground garlic. I stir this well and then start laying the chicken on the already hot grill.
Using a long handled brush, I quickly brush a thick layer of this mix onto the top of the chicken breasts. (De-boned and skinless by preference.) I close the lid and set the air vents almost closed on top and about half-way on the bottom.
Leave the chicken breasts alone for twenty minutes! (Well, okay, I do open the lid and dash some more barbecue sauce on the chicken after about ten minutes.) But I DON'T flip the breasts yet or "check the bottoms" of them either. Trust me! The more you bother the meat on the grill, the more you cause it to dry out!
After twenty minutes, I flip the chicken breasts and slob a thick layer of my "secret" barbecue sauce on the breasts. Close the lid and open the vents in the top of the grill all the way but leave the bottom vents alone. (Yes, I HAVE done this before, thank you!)
In ten minutes, slob on more "secret" barbecue sauce... at the end of twenty minutes you remove the chicken breasts from the grill.
We always fill the entire barbecue with chicken breasts because we LOVE leftovers. We will eat barbecue chicken for three days from a full grill... yep, every meal, if we want!
Do you have a "secret" recipe for barbecue?
Can you guess what we are having for supper tonight?

@JudyEv Oh! So you don't want me to tell you about the homemade rolls I just took out of my oven, either? Okay.

@DaddyEvil Will you stop with the cooking stories please? I haven't had lunch yet and there is no hot chicken in sight!

Those ingredients sound alien to me. I would rather you invite me for dinner while you cook than be the one cooking.

I am not sure you eat garam masala (some spices ground)...but my aunts tend to wash, then keep it soaked in some ginger garlic paste and plenty of curds, and some turmeric, and salt, and chillies and garam masala they leave it in fridge for over an hour. One brahmin girl who was my neighbor told me how to do it (for one of the parties). She took the usual tomato sauce a little bit of curds salt ginger garlic, and garam masala...left it aside for an hour and said now fry or barbecue...everybody liked it. Both of them used toothpicks to make holes in the flesh..height of cruelty.

@DaddyEvil ..Yeah...meat (chicken to be precise..brahmins don't eat meat...she learned it from somewhere). You do realize I crash landed into cooking from hostel life, without mom to guide me. Don't you? So those are my observations, and they have served me well.
I do cook non-veg DE...I don't eat. I don't mind serving it on my table. I won't taste to find out the salt and pepper in it or whether it is tender.

@vandana7 No, vanny, I had no idea. I knew you lived in a hostel, but have no idea what that is... Is that the same thing @hora_fugit is always talking about?

You mean there is some kind of meat the girl fixed for you to fry or barbecue? If there is no meat, then I am very confused!

@DaddyEvil I am a vegetarian since I was 7. I have never been a health concious one though. I ate burnt pizza for dinner last night. Usually I take a multivitamin to make up for how not nutrious I eat. I do once in awhile eat a Boca burger.

Are you vegetarian or what would you call the way you eat, shaggin? What do you eat for protein? Beans, nuts/legumes, mushrooms, lentils, cauliflower or eggplant? Or possibly you eat something I have never even heard of?

@shaggin Hmmm... I am not sure, but I don't see why this sauce wouldn't work on a shiitake mushroom pizza, shaggin... I am fairly sure I wouldn't burn it, either.
Uhm... a Boca burger? May I share a link with you? I am not suggesting anything. I think you might be interested in reading this article, though.
4th of July is right around the corner and I really can’t think of a better way to celebrate Independence Day than a good old fashioned BBQ. But I have to be honest here, attending a BBQ produces a bit … Continued

Ohhhh, throw me some rice to go with that and I'm good!!
Interesting with the ranch dressing - I'll have to try that! But we don't have a "real" bbq yet . . . we do have this indoor electric grill that's a pain to clean, but it does the trick. I know, I know, nothing beats a "real" bbq though!
And I love making leftovers too - you can do a lot with leftover chicken!
Can't say I have any secret ingredients for any recipe . . . most of the recipes I use were found at some point in a book or online . . . I guess I stole other people's secrets!

@DaddyEvil I've seen those stoves - in fact recently when we went to Lowes. But no, that's the not kind we have. My ex-bosses gave it to us as a wedding present . . . it's a table top electric grill that you just plug in. The top unit is the grill, and the bottom is a sort of basin for catching the drips. We can put foil in the basin for easy clean up - but it's the grill cleaning that's a pain in the butt. It's a non-stick metal (I know, it's not good, so we'll be getting rid of it eventually), so it's not like we can scrub the heck out of it. It says you can stick it in the dishwasher, but still you have to get all the bits and pieces out yourself.
And - oh the stories you have! I'm glad you got YOUR stove!

Hey, are you talking about one of those stoves that has two burners and the rest of the top is a grill looking thingy? When I first married Pretty's mom we bought one of those stoves for our house.
Other than it being a royal pain to clean, we liked it just fine!
We left that stove with the house when we sold it and bought a house that wasn't finished being built. My wife LOVED picking out all the appliances, deciding what carpets she wanted in the house, whether to put wood moulding halfway up the walls or not, whether to have the ceilings with the coffering or just flat... All kinds of crap!
I wanted another one of those stoves, but she didn't... Guess who won?

Your secrets safe with me *quickly copies and pastes into a document..*
When it comes to grilling, that is my husband's job, and I don't know what he does, but his chicken always comes out juicy and tasty. Of course change is good, so maybe I will secretly grill out using your recipe.

@sofssu Oops! Sorry, hon! I thought you already knew that!
Uhm... I had malicious melanoma for over seven years before the oncologist finally got the last of it. The doctors declared me cancer free and then about nine months later I was diagnosed with a very form of rectal cancer. No known cure. (That is what I take pain meds for.)

Honestly, if you were coming for dinner, I would not be cooking such plain fare as this. You would dine on far better fare, I guarantee that!

My profile and my picture are the real me, Erly! I learned to cook from my mother at a young age. There were 16 living children in my family. My mom continued to cook for that many people even when there were only my mom, my youngest brother and I left at home. If we didn't want to eat the same thing as leftovers for a week, one of us had to do the cooking. My brother and I split cooking chores until we left home.
It is typical here in the United States for outdoor cooking to be done by men. Indoor cooking is normally a woman's domain. I am a bit unusual in that I am a male who cooks indoors and out. I am divorced, so my daughter and I eat my cooking or starve. (Since we've both gained weight instead of lost it, you can take my word that I can cook well... )
Handsome does indeed fit DE, my avatar. He is made from a picture of me twenty years ago....
