One More Baby Quilt

I like to sew, but the time and mood doesn’t come over me as often as it used to. I needed to make a couple of simple baby quilts to take to Minnesota in August. In the mood to sew and not wanting to wait until the last minute, I started playing with some of the material I had stockpiled. I needed two but I was listening to a series of audiobooks and wanted to finish them, so I kept going. Having a couple of quilts in reserve never hurt. I finished the fronts of four baby quilts. I decided to do the backs on them when we got back from New York later next month, but as I started to pack my sewing machine away, my husband came in. He looked at the quilts and then gave me a sheepish grin. His cousin’s son just had a baby and he wanted send them a quilt. I had no problem with that, but I just finished making the fronts for four BOY baby quilts but they just had a little GIRL. Sigh. I’ll be spending another day sitting at the sewing machine listening to audiobooks and sewing. Have a good one.

Your quilts are even more wonderful because you have to sometimes work to get them done. It's obviously a labor of love for you and for whoever is on the receiving end of them.

@BettyB oh I'm sure that will be such a joy for you! To hold your first grandchild in one of your own quilts. I hope that happens for you, Betty!

@CRK109 I know both my boys want kids one day. It will happen but not for a while yet.

I do enjoy making them. I hope one day my sons will give me grandchildren. Sewing for grandbabies of my own would be so much fun. One day.

@Jeanniemaries They're simple squares set in a nine patch pattern. They don't take long. I finished the little girl quilt. I'll post a picture of it later today.

I found some left over material with little kittens on. There's a lot of pink in the quilt but its turning out adorable. I should be able to finish it today.

For the quilts you make in advance, you could always make them gender neutral, then it wouldn't matter if they had a girl or a boy. I need to spend more time sewing too. I've had a quilt started for a few months that I still haven't finished.

I try to but then I find material that I just love... I've had this animal print for years. It was time to use it. The quilt you made for your mother at Christmas was beautiful. Honestly, you're better at sewing than I am.

If you can sew, you can make one of these. It's just squares sewn together and then backed with prequilted material.

I do enjoy it, but only when I don't have to. This last baby quilt surprised me. I didn't want to sew anymore. Well, its almost done. I'll get it finished today and in the mail tomorrow.

You are coming to New York? The city or the state?

The city. We're taking my mother in law up there to visit family. She's getting too frail to fly. We'll be up there for a couple of weeks.

They all look so different and so nice. I hope that you've got a good audiobook to listen to while you make a pink quilt today, have fun!

I would love to run over to the library and pick up another one, but I'll settle for one of the humorous mysteries I have downloaded on my Kindle. Some stories are funny enough to listen to more than once.

What a good idea to listen to audio books while you sew.

Audiobooks are a great invention. Whenever I have a project (other than writing) to work on, I put on an audiobook. I have some on my Kindle but the library is getting more and more every day. I'm not the only one that has turned to audiobooks when busy.

I really like how all the quilts turned out. I'll finish the little girl quilt today but the rest will wait until after we get back from New York. We'll be heading up there Monday and be visiting family for a couple of weeks.

That will teach you. Next time make two of each! How nice that these tiny babies will be getting a lovely hand-made quilt.

I was using up material that I already had. And yes, I have plenty of 'girl' material but I was focused on the two new little boys on my side of the family. I forgot about my husband's side. It's his cousin's new granddaughter. They live on the west coast and we're on the east. I've never met them.

I would love to sit and listen to these audio books that I have while I sew! Of course I have a problem with mine...they are all on cassette and we have no cassette player.

My mom used to sew quilts for my children too and I loved her finished products.
