Now that my family is here I am involving the grandchildren in making the cooking. They love to get in the kitchen and do their thing.
Since everyone has such different taste I decided that kabobs on the grill would be a great idea for a dinner.
I cut up a variety of meats and vegetables along with the older grandkids and had all of them help put the food on the kabob sticks.
We had a variety of beef, chicken, pork, mushrooms, zucchini, onions, green pepper, broccoli, and squash for everyone to choose from.
Each child was assigned two adults to make kabobs for so they needed to find out what they wanted on their kabos.
It turned out great. Everyone was happy, they we able to eat the type of foods they like. The kids got to be involved with making dinner and felt important.
It turned out terrific. Do you ever do this type of thing where the kids get to do a majority of the dinner? We all had a ball.

I used to make them (mostly chicken with some veggies) but my husband isn't fond of cooking them - you need to use pliers to turn the sticks or you burn your fingers! Yours look delish! We only have the dog so we don't let her play with our food!

@HazySue Sometimes we use the wooden ones that you have to soak so they don't burn.

@AbbyGreenhill I can't say I blame you for not letting your furbaby near the kabobs. As for having to use pliers to turn them, I guess it is a pain but they are so good when they are done. I suspect that my husband will let me know one day how much of a pain it is.

I often make kabobs for our cookouts. They are usually the first to go! The variety of meats, vegetables and sometimes fruits are always a welcome change from the humdrum burgers and sausages.

@ElusiveButterflindeed we love kabobs. They are indeed a wonderful change from the usual. I haven't tried cooking fruit on the grill. I use raw fruit to make tiny kabobs as a dessert or appetizer. I'll have to try adding pineapple as @LadyDuck and you both mentioned fruit in a kabob.

@HazySue We have a cookout at the end of the month and I am supplying the proteins. Kabobs are a great item to offer and maybe just using vegetables will encourage people to eat more healthy choices. I am thinking zucchini, yellow squash, onion and mushrooms.

@ElusiveButterfly that sounds terrific. I find that making kabobs does encourage adults and children alike to eat more vegetables.

My daughter and I are doing a special recipe every week this year. Things we've never tried before. I do love having my grandchildren help out in the kitchen although the youngest one isn't quite into it. He'd rather be playing! LOL

@irishidid I have two that are too young to help other than get a spoon or paper plate for me. The older ones love getting involved.

We made some not too long ago. It had chicken, shrimp, bell peppers, and potatoes on one of them. On the other ones it was steak, carrots, bell peppers, and potatoes. They were good.
