I live in Moston, where this sign depicts what was already a bi-gone era when I was born in 1962. The park depicted is Boggart Hole Clough about 10 minutes-walk from The Hillier Street pub, though its little band stand has long since perished, as more recently has the pub itself The Clough is still a favourite place to visit for me. At one time military and brass bands played in many public parks providing free entertainment for park users. Here, two children watch the band. One child is pausing for a moment while walking a dog while another is being pulled away by a lady who looks as if she is a hurry. By the entrance gates a park keeper is sweeping the path. The attention to colour is lovely and the scene is wonderfully nostalgic and strangely reminiscent of childhood TV shows like Trumpton and Camberwick Green. The pub certainly dates back to the 1960’s in an area developed around it and for many years it was much loved, but repeated reports to the police due to fighting at and around the pub led to its closure in about 2012. The 1742 year marker represents the business starting year of the Whitbread Brewery who owned the pub, not The Moston itself. The sign outlived the pub by a few years. Arthur Chappell

That is a wonderful little sign. Once upon as time small town America was symbolized by parks with the bandstands where the local brass band played Saturday nights.

@JohnRoberts The scene from Trumpton it reminds me of - every episode ended with the Fire Brigade bandstand concert

It does look like an illustration from a children's book! Cool sign.
