When I'm feeling down, I find music often helps me feel better. I love many genres, but especially jazz and Big Band. I also like the Andrews Sisters. The combination of lovely, harmonious vocals and lively performance made sisters, Patty, Maxine, and LaVerne an entertainment sensation in the 1940s. Their hit Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy always brings a smile to my face.
Do you know the Andrews Sisters? What is your go-to pick-me-up music?

I definitely enjoy jazz and some older country. My favorite country song is probably Dolly Parton's "Jolene." Do you like contemporary country or older?

@puddleglum Oh definitely the older - Johnny Cash, Boxcar Willie. Willie Nelson, Tammy Wynette, Hank Williams etc. and yes Dolly Parton.

@jaboUK Great choices. I like several Hank Williams songs also. "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" has always been my favorite of his.

I like the Eagles. I like "Take it Easy," but "Hotel California" is my favorite. That's not very original of me, I know, but I can't help it. Haha

Did she sing it in the movie For the Boys? That seems familiar.

Depending on my mood, usually Christian music calms me down and makes me feel good, or Mexican music cheers me up and gets me going.

I could see that about Mecican music. I like several contemporary Christian artists. As I discussed with @just4him, I enjoy Toby Mac and Casting Crowns. Traditional worship music is also a favorite for me. Many old school hymns were so grounded in Scripture, that it made remembering the principles easier.

That's neat. Toby Mac and Casting Crowns are probably my favorites from that genre. I also like Skillet. I don't hear them on the radio as much as I hear the ones I just mentioned, though. They are more rock than pop.

@puddleglum I don't know Skillet, but I do like the others mentioned. Chris Tomlin is my favorite. But I like all of them. I listen to KLOVE as often as I can, which is when I'm in the car as the signal isn't strong enough for the house.

@just4him I like to listen to Chris Tomlin as well. KLOVE is a good station. I like how the tone is upbeat, even when they are talking about current events.

@jstory07 That's cool. Most people I ask that question, only like one or the other. The only contemporary country act I really follow is Little Big Town. I love their harmony.

Hey, mood-boosting music doesn't have to make sense to anybody but you. And yes, Glenn Miller is great. That's also my wake-up music.

@WorDazza It's good you share that with your dad.
I enjoy all of those performers--especially Sinatra. He's probably my favorite male singer. My favorite female singer is Ella Fitzgerald.

Some of the greatest songs are about heartbreak. As the Carpenters would say, "The best love songs end in a broken heart."
Do you have any favorite songs/singers in the heartbreak topic?

@JohnRoberts Sometimes it's fun to listen to the radio versions of popular films produced by "Lux Radio Theater" or the "Screen Guild Theater" when I can find them. When you said, "the TV of its day," I thought of those programs.

The concept of AOR is really interesting. Not many of the places I've lived have had a lot of good local AOR stations, though.
I like some types of contemporary rock (and lots of older styles from the 70s and 80s.) I enjoy the alternative/Christian Rock band Skillet.
