It's so quiet here

I enjoy my alone time, really I do, but I've had enough for now. My husband and kids went to his parents' place Wednesday after lunch and they are still gone. They are coming home today sometime and I'm ready for them to be back. My in-laws raise chickens in the spring for butchering and yesterday was butcher day so my husband went to help with that. Since they live about 4 hours away he had to go a day early and come home the day after. We decided the kids could go with to see their cousins, aunts, uncles, and of course their grandparents. I decided to stay home to watch the dog. At first it was nice to have peace and quiet and be able to get some stuff done that I normally don't have time for. That lasted a couple of hours. After that I started missing having someone to talk to. Even the dog, Morgan, misses them. Right after they left she kept staring at the door expecting them to come back. The rest of the day she would race to the door every time she heard a car door. Yesterday morning she was the same, every sound meant a trip to the door and a whine to go out. She did calm down some, but kept looking at the door every time she heard something. Thankfully today she is much calmer and seems to have accepted that they aren't home yet. She will be thrilled when they do get home later.
Quiet alone time is nice, but too much gets lonely.

I was probably like that when I was younger, I missed my kids when they were a part of our life. Now, they are all gone and on their own. when hubby goes on business trips, I say I'm on vacation.. I just do what I want, eat what I want and love it...but when he's home life is good too, so it's sort of a joke but good for the soul.

I have 10 years or more before all my kids are old enough to leave, so it will be awhile before I have to experience them gone all the time. I enjoy some alone time, but not that long a time. Maybe I would enjoy it more if I would have had a car so I could go somewhere other than where I could walk or bike.

I absolutely agree with you. I enjoy my quiet time for a couple hours and it gets old real fast after that. My kids are going to kids camp this year with church-they will be gone for 4 days and my husband will be working. It will just be the baby and I and our 2 dogs. It's going to feel SO weird without my babies being here!
