Bangover! (hangover of a book)

To begin with there's no such term as that; I made it.
So I finished reading Thomas Hardy's Far from the Madding Crowd. I never read Hardy before or more precisely never 'attempted' to read Hardy before so this one was a first timer for me and I must say this- even though I found the narrative a bit difficult at first but over time I got completely engrossed in the novel and I absolutely LOVED it!
The narrative reflected Hardy's genius and I think I am in love with the character Gabriel Oak.
Now that I am done with the novel, I seem to be stuck in it totally. I am pleased with the ending but the story was so fine that now it's haunting me. It always happens with me whenever I read a "really good book". Is it the same for you folks as well? Are you haunted by good stories like me?

Yes. This was the first time I read Hardy and I absolutely loved it. Have you read any book by him?

@SIMPLYD A very natural reaction. And it actually helps us to cover so many authors; we get to read so many new books as well.

@The_Bong_Woman Yes, with Maeve Binchy books particularly. Have you read 'Tara Road' - I loved that, in fact anything by that author. (Btw, my name is Janet, you don't need to address me as ma'am, though I appreciate your politeness).

@jaboUK I haven't read any of her books I am afraid but I will definitely make it a point to read her works. Here in myLot I've been learning about a lot many authors and I am glad you mentioned her. Another one added to my somewhat sober treasury. Thank you.

@jaboUK Oh yes, indeed it can! I remember distinctly how I longed for the story of Daring Deception by Barbara Cartland to continue, in my early teens. Then I remember vividly of being "haunted" by some of the characters and tid-bits of Danielle Steel's The Ring in my mid-teens. And now I am infatuated by this novel, now when I am standing on the threshold of my exiting teen years. Looks like this is going to stay with me in the long run. Do you "suffer" like this too ma'am?

@The_Bong_Woman It's really good so far. I will be listening to the last of it this afternoon. After listening to it, I'm going to finish reading Blue Dragon by Kylie Chan.

I am exactly the same way! If a book is really good, I can't stop thinking about it. I was that way with Jojo Moyes' "Me Before You", which you MUST read if you haven't already!

@missjessicadawn Me too! I simply keep playing again and again the scenes I loved the most in my mind. At times it gets really exhausting but I guess these are the things that distinguishes a real "book-addict" from any regular "reader".
Yesterday I was browsing through Amazon and was looking at some fresh arrivals when I came across the book you mentioned by Jojo Moyes. I am thinking of ordering it now.

@arthurchappell Yes, I had it in my 3rd semester syllabus, I've read it and it's really very tragic and the ending is so sad; comparatively Far from the Madding Crowd ends on a much happier note.

That's one of the very popular novels that I haven't read yet ..Indeed, some stories we read stay with with us for a long time ..

@The_Bong_Woman When I read a book I create the characters in my mind and then I cannot stop thinking to them.

Yes, if I am really into the book, characters and plot of the story, I don't want to let it go when the book is finished! (I don't normally fall in love with a character, though! (looking at you a little odd, wondering if you are firing on all cylinders... and teasing you!)
Here, Priya, this is the first book in that series.

@DaddyEvil Well, I keep falling for one or the other character of say, a book I read or some anime I watched (for e.g. Goku of Dragon Ball Z), all thanks to my age!
Unlike others teens I hardly fall for actors or models or pop-stars. I almost always fall for the fictional ones. Duh!

@The_Bong_Woman I live in the book with the characters. I always want more, too. That's a sign of a good writer!

@DianneN Wow it's the same for you and me then. Reading a good book is the best ever thing but once finished I am left wanting more.

@DianneN Absolutely agreed! I too read a book while visualising the whole thing in my mind as if watching a movie. If I am able to visualise smoothly it means it really is a good book or say, suits my taste but if not able to do so then the book most likely remains hidden in a corner of some shelf.
