Do Good Things and Good Things Will Happen

I think I got that quote right from the TV show, 'My Name Is Earl." When I was in Canmore, Alberta on vacation some weeks ago I did quite a bit of walking. Maybe because it was spring and the snow hadn't been gone that long, there was a lot of garbage on the walking trail. As I headed out I would grab a bag and fill it with garbage. Once, I came across a pile of garbage from McDonald's. There were several coffee cups in the pile and 4 of them still had the sticker on them that can be collected for a free coffee. So, the good thing that happened to me was I got 4/7th of a free coffee. I like McDonald's coffee so I think it's pretty good payment for something I was doing any way! The picture is the little paper that hold the stickers until you collect 7 and cash it in.

It's always good to get something for nothing, and a little reward for doing an environment friendly thing.

I agree. Here the lineups at Tim Horton's are always huge. When that is the case I head to McDonald's.

No, I don't understand either. I didn't have to walk far to get to a garbage. And if they like McDonald's anyway why throw out the little stickers? Funny thing is, in the same bag were coffee cups that had the stickers removed. Someone could have had a free coffee already from that pile of cups.

I'm glad you made out well cleaning other's trash. I can't imagine why people can't throw their trash in trash cans or wait until they get home.

Funny post, Paige and completely unexpected. I didn't know where you were going with this, but it's nice when you can reap benefits for good deeds done right away. Normally we can't connect all those dots for the good done and the good we receive especially when they are far apart.

It was fun to find those cups were tossed away with the stickers still on them. And it was funny that finding 4 stickers towards a cup of coffee excited me so much. Really, I pick up garbage just to have a clean place to walk.

I believe good deeds are not always rewarded on the spot and sometimes one gets tired of waiting.

Very true, the good deed is usually not rewarded on the spot. Mostly, I pick up garbage for the reward of looking at a tidy landscape. So, that reward is always instant.

@miniam Signs on the highway say the littering fine is up to $500! I am guessing that not many people are given a fine and that is the problem. This litter I am talking about was on the TransCanada highway. Very rude to toss garbage out I think.

@paigea Good way to look at it. We do not have problems with garbage here mostly.People are quite respectful and will not litter and if you have bad luck and liter, fines for littering goes from $80 which no one wants to pay so littering is really at a minimum.

I remember in grade school the teacher announcing that today was cleanup day in the school yard and we should be proud of our clean school. That kind of awareness stays with you. Good post. May good things happen for you.

@Bluedoll It can be. Many would say it has been to me, but I can walk a few blocks to a garbage can carrying my own trash and so can they.
