Another Writing Site Bites the Dust

To say I was shocked is an understatement. Examiner.com is closing their doors. I have written for them for 5 years and I always thought they were solid as a rock. Evidently not. They were purchased by AXS a couple of years ago and have been changing their focus toward entertainment articles. I was accepted to write them but have never done so since this is not really my area of interest. They are only giving their writers until July 10, 2016 to save their articles. I have over 200 and so I have my work cut out for me getting them all saved and getting the urls so I can prove that I own this work. If the past is any indication, the site will be scrapped and the articles stolen so we need to have the proof of our ownership and the day we wrote the articles. This will certainly hurt my ability to get media comps since most of my articles were written on Examiner since it had a great reputation. The available sites to write on is decreasing fast.

I had never heard of Examiner.com and the entertainment focus would have been of interest to me but alas it is yet another writing gone down. Choices are dwindling.

Their AXS site will remain so you can still apply there to write. It is Entertainment news, concerts etc.

I hadn't thought about that, but I should have hooked up. They had more journalistic pretentions with an honest-to-god style sheet. They withheld your first three articles until you passed muster. But they paid, well, squat. They just happened to close down when I'm about 47ยข short of the payout. @JohnRoberts, you can still apply to AXS, the people who own(ed) Examiner. Their emphasis is on entertainment. Think I'll pass the word to Scott also.

I read about this in @msiduri 's post, as she does a lot of reviews for them. It just shows the value of saving your work as you go along, doesn't it?

It does but you especially need to keep your urls. That is how you prove ownership.

@BelleStarr Yes I keep all the urls too. It made it easier when deleting them from Bubblews too.

@BelleStarr - Ms Belle - The rascals invited me to write for them under my "old" Examiner title from several years ago. I wrote about environmental and health matters back then. Sure wish they had told me what was "up" when they sent me the invitation, but that's the way things tend to work in the Internet world. As an aside to @jaboUK - I'll not be sending you a copy of the Examiner article promised. In fact I did not, and will not write the thing. Wonder why....

I never wrote for the examiner but I am shocked that it is closing. If you download them, it saves the original HTML and has the date of the article. I went through this when Helium shut down. I downloaded a bunch of my better articles. It is shocking how many places I wrote for that have shut down. Maybe it's me, I don't know.

@DeborahDiane I may give them a look over. I am working on some stuff to send to Listverse and Supernatural Stories. Not doing well with it. I got out of the habit of writing.

If you have a lot of experience as an online writer, you may want to try TheDailyVoiceNews.com (the word "the" in the title is important or you go to the wrong site.) At the bottom of their home page, they have a spot where you can apply to them. They are pay-per-view and my average views per article have increased steadily over the past 10 months. Hope to see you over there. I know many of the writers there also wrote for The Examiner and they are in shock, too.

This is what is my worry. I am writing for nearly 20 sites and many have poor viewer response. This means all such sites will be closed one day. That is what I am still trying to find, a relatively permanent writing site, Any help?

I have never written for them but I did hear that they are closing their doors from one of the owners of a group of sites that I write for that let you earn. Harlow-McGaw Media. Writedge, Daily Two Cents, Listofied and Penstrokes are some of their sites.

@DeborahDiane I don't really enjoy writing about news to tell you the truth. Plus as I said, I am disillusioned with the sites. I had great hopes for them and they have been dashed. I am in the process of removing my content from W/E. When I have removed all that I am going to remove I will consider applying for the new site but I don't really need a commitment at this point. Thank you and you are doing a good job of promoting The DailyVoiceNews. I wish them success with this site, I just think they grew too fast and now they have abandoned W/E and DTS not to mention Reviewz and Listofied.

Yes, the sites where you can write news, entertainment articles, or similar things are very difficult to find these days. When you recover your articles, you may want to move some of the current ones to TheDailyVoiceNews.com (the word "the" in the title is important or you go to the wrong site.) At the bottom of their home page, they have a spot where you can apply to them. They are pay-per-view and my average views per article have increased steadily over the past 10 months. I don't want to write news, it is not my niche. I am doing client work right now and I will move a lot of the examiner articles to my blog. If I decide to write I will probably go to Infobarrel. I am totally disillusioned with the Harlow MaGaw sites. I have more than 600 articles being held hostage on Writedge. You can no longer delete and de-index them for reuse.
