Donating A Large Sum Of Money

I remember reading about this story a couple years ago. It is inspiring as it is unbelievable. A minister from a Christian center took a deposit slip last and wrote down $1 million. The reverend then prayed over the deposit slip and said that the money will be used to build a new church. Fast forward to a couple of months later, an anonymous business owner gave $1.4 million dollars and an extra $100,000 to build the new church.
The church did open in a few weeks time. The reverend said that in these economic times, that "the Lord wanted to show his power." This is a great story and it got me thinking if an anonymous person will give you $1.5 million, what will you do with the money? Also, if you had that much money and more to spare, will you do the same as what the good samaritan did and give the money to build a new church?
Everyone's thoughts are welcome. Cheers!!!

If I have money I won't give it to build a church, instead I will give it to the poorest people in the world.

when two or more people group together to pray, this is already considered a church. if i am donated with a big amount of money, my priority would be to help the poorest student attain their goals, then if there is a spare, i can borrow some for the heart operation i must have

That is so generous of you, helping out students first before looking after yourself even if you need it as well.

No I won't build a church at all. I'll make the money grow, use the interest to help people make their dreams come true.

@allen0187 it's the only way I could think of to help as many and as much as I can. Building a church in my personal opinion is a total waste.

@toniganzon I agree, you can build a hospital, or a place for orphans or elder people. We do not need a church to pray.

Actually, the more rich people are the more they gave away money for a good cause.
Millions (equivalent to billions today) were given away by Rockefeller and Carnegie.
The more you give the more you receive. There is a power on that phrase. :)

@wiLLmaH true.
Although, personally, I want to help others without expecting anything in return. Not from my fellow men or from some greater power from above.

@allen0187 Everytime we are doing things, there is a magic from above that HE give back 10 or more folds.

Well, if someone is rich enough to donate 15 million dollars he does not need that money. If I would receive a million dollar I would keep it and do exactly the same as @toniganzon . I will give something in charity, but I would use the money for my living.

This is also a good story of fate and perhaps even Karma. I don't believe in your God.

@allen0187 ....Not that I recall but most people are or have deity they worship. No, I wouldn't build a church.

If I will be given that amount, I will put it investments and make the money grow. Then, I will spend it to help in building schools for the kids and a big library where everyone will be welcomed. I would like the kids to have a bright future. It is good to expose them to books and other educational activities that will improve them as they are growing up.

@annierose I understand and appreciate the comforts that technology brings us but Kindles and iPads cannot and will not replace books in my heart.
I'm old-fashioned when it comes to reading and books.

@allen0187 True! More books rather than technologies. I have noticed that many students are very smart in computer games but very dull when it comes to reading.

You should read the story of Cynthia Stafford.
She wanted very badly to win 112 million dollars, and she wrote the number on a piece of paper every day, and imagined herself getting the money.
She did win, and become very famous.
You can search for her in Youtube.
She has accepted many interviews, and she shows how she wins the money despite dirt poor.

I would be extremly uncomfortable with getting that much money as a donation...but, in general, I don't like receiving them at all...and often refuse "gifts" ppl want to give me. Re. giving to build a new church, no, I wouldn't-in my opinion, we have enough churches, and I say that as a clergyman, and a conservative one at that. There are other things the community needs which I think would glorify God more then creating more of what we already have-I would be more willing to give it to a create a work program for unemployed/underemployed families, or create a fund for families in need. For me...it is almost like, the difference between talking about Jesus, and doing what Jesus said about how life in the church should be run.

If I am that rich, yes, I will also give it to church.
I know a famous author who lost her billionaire status because she donated her money to charity.

I would give some of the money to Food Share, so more people could be fed. Some would be put in the bank, so I could live and pay off my house. Also I would use some to start a Food Truck Business, as would like to serve healthy easy options, so people eat better.

If I really have much money then thats a good thing to donate to things with eternal bearing like building a church, or helping church workers and missionaries. These people are being used to spread the good news, the harvest is many but the workers are few, they have a great task for the salvation of people and its really fulfilling when you know you have given it to the servants of the Lord.

I really liked the story. If I received that much money I would give some of it to my family and donate some of it to charity. I used to work in a home for people with special needs. They really need money and I would love to donate a large amount of money to them. My husband and I have a sponsor child in India. We pay her school fees. If we had more money I would pay the school fees for several children.
